Hiya :)
Some of the latest pictures of Ship Simulator 2008. I've only supplied 2 for now, the other Moderators will no doubt supply some of theirs. Screenshots can't really do the game realism justice, but it looks and feels amazing ;D

Does that mean you're testing it personally? If so, is there anything else you can/will tell?
I was looking at photos of Portsmouth a few days back, although its not brimming with detail it is still recognisable and the Spiny tower is absolutely superb- just like it.
Thanks for showing them to us
Stu
-
We are beta-testing it, yes :)
For the moment, just the pictures. I'm sure you'll agree that these alone make the anticipation grow. Looks impressive, yes?
For those who are wondering, no more beta-testers are required, but the release date is approaching fast ;D

Greetings,
Here are some of mine.
I hope this makes you not inpatient, because there is still some work to do.

Later today,i'm putting some more on this forum.
In the mean time enjoy the ones that are on.

Greetings,
By testing the game,i can tell you, that it is more realistic than the 2006-version,the scenery is also great and the vessels look more real in the water, because of the waves, and on the fast vessels the bowsplash.
I'm sure you will be all exited,by this new release.
The beta-testers have still alot to discover in the new game in search for problems, and if they show up,inform Vstep. This way they can solve that problem, before the game comes out
This work is huge, but this is needed to release an exelent product.
Like i said before, dont get inpatient. We all want a good an nice product on the market,to please you,and give you houres of exitment and game pleasure.
Kind regards to all

I love the waves :) Can not waint to this game come's! :D

Great pictures, really looking forward for this game, I've preordered it too, so just have to wait now. :)

I want to see pictures from the cranes and supply ship, if it is possible?

FAIRMOUNT SHERPA berthed in Brooklyn...
VLCC LATITUDE off the French Coast in the evening...

I really like that picture of Fairmount Sherpa, are you allowed to make videos? Keep on with the pictures. :P
-
Nice picture!!!!!
-
Thank you. Nice pictures. We want more ;D
-
Maybe that's not, what you are really waiting for...
Thanks Bootman! He he I guess there is room for improvement... ;) Purple ceiling... is that a wish from P&O or just the best the Italian designers could come up with? :D By the way, it is nice to be able to play chess on the floor...
-
I really like that picture of Fairmount Sherpa, are you allowed to make videos? Keep on with the pictures. :P
Hi ChiefEagle,
I still haven´t found a suitable provider for such a video. Youtube just allows 100 MB and a 1,5 minute video, made with Fraps, has more than 300 MB... :'(
Cheers
-
Thanks Bottman, but when you find out of video making, try to take with som footage from mooring and crane operations please. :) Keep up the good work
-
Very Nice. :D

One thing about the cranes... How long does it take to fully load a ship, in real life where looking at just over 24hr... I'm worried it'll take a long time to fully load a ship, (I'm not expecting 24hr) wouldn't want it to be a few hrs!
Thankyou
-
Greetings,
No,it would be nice to put about 20 containers on the vessel,or taking 20 of.
Most of the time in harbours, they work with more than 1 crane on a vessel, and than it still takes some houres to load or unload the vessel.
Regards
Marc
-
Looks super great. I would like it if someone would invent the time machine. ;D
-
You would have to wait for it to be released too Ship Sim. ;D
-
All those pictures look very nice, looking forward to the release :D

About this, it will work if you first import it into Windows Movie Maker or something like that, and then export it again. This will make it only 5-10 mb per minute.
Only one thing:
Maybe that's not, what you are really waiting for...
Will the interior of the Pride of Rotterdam bridge become any better? Or is it like this in real? Or will it stay like this?

You'll only have to load/unload 20 or less containers. So no, it won't take hours :)

those pics are great thanks!can i see a pic of one of those offshore tugs in big waves and bad weather ;D i think that would be aswome :o

Hi Together,
maybe not the best in quality, but my very first trial with a video. See the PRIDE OF ROTTERDAM leaving a quay in Hamburg...

Thanks for the video. Will there be AIS information on the map in ss2008? ;D

Guess not.. :'(

Thanks for the Pictures and Vidoe. You guys and the Develob team did a good job. I'm sure what ever is in this game will be great. Thanks

Hello,
A propos AIS, there is an interesting site
http://www.pa3esz.nl/ais/rijnmond.html
with actual AIS data
Regards
Luc
-
Hi LucAtC,
seems to be not really actual, looks more than the normal Google Earth picture with attached icons for the vessels. It's daylight there, at 22.15 h right now...
But nice to see the PRIDE OF HULL at P&O's terminal, coming soon with SS08.
Cheers
-
Hello Bottman,
It can be, but I dont understand what you say about daylight on a map?
What I see are the AIS data with fresh DTG. Did you click on the icons to read the data, consistent with the trails?
Oh I see what you mean the times given are UTC, ie you needed to add 2 hr to get CET. Was that the problem?
It is a similar site as this one
http://www.aisliverpool.co.uk/index.php?map=Channel

Hello Michael,
Indeed, one can zoom, pan, etc... and also, coming back to the AIS question, it is to be remembered, I think, that AIS is implemented on the chart of ShipSim 2006 Pro, and will be also implemented on the Pro Version of 2008. Well, at a higher cost, but justified in my view (not my wife's...)
And another one http://www.hamntjanst.se/ais.htm
and this one, more general, but needing a (free) registration to have all details: http://www.vesseltracker.com/en/Home.html

As one who has been on the bridge of several ferries leaving port, that video gets my vote!
The bridge looks a little sparse, but the feel of a ferry casting off is superb!!!!
Also note that there are nav lights on side. Nice touch.

Nice work! The video very much captures the spirit of leaving port.
And yes, there are ancilliary consoles on the bridge of modern ships having to do with watertight doors and firefighting readiness, etc, but these are not seriously to be thought of as legitimate parts of a ship simulator.
Cheers,
Michael

Wow!!
By the looks of it the mooring ropes look like they don't slam the ship against the wall anymore. Am I right?
I would love to see some pics of Southampton docks itself with the container ship included.
Great work!!!
Thanks,

Looks great, I'm counting down the days! :D
Cannot wait to pilot the Pride of Rotterdam. ;D
Well done VStep!

Thank you Stu,
I really love that stuff too, because I´m also a "ferryman", sailing on several ferries around Northern Europe - and a few years from Hamburg to Great Britain with the "Prinz Hamlet", "Hamburg"...
Well, the PRIDE is larger of course, but she behaves similar!
Cheers
-
cant you posy any pictures of the insides of the ships and of a sinking ship or heavy damage? ???
-
Well, there are pics from inside the wheelhouses, but except RED JET 4 there are no internal views possible. And as a former seaman I don´t like pics from sinking vessels very much.. :'(
Cheers
-
Well gents, maybe you will take a look onboard the RED EAGLE?

Just watched it again and it really DOES feel like a ferry departing (I only know from a passenger perspective of course). Again the Red Eagle- the texture of the sea really does make it look likes its moving. That is superb. Really superb.
I've found the 'Prinz Hamlet' but can't find 'Hamburg'. Was it a similar ship? Without going off topic, I do have a special interest in ferries and P O Rotterdam is my main interest in 2008.
Stu
-
Stu!
The "Hamburg" was the former "Kronprins Harald" (Jahre Line), later she was renamed "Admiral of Scandinavia" (Scandinavian Seaways), propably one of the best ferries in their fleet, according to service, food...
Now she sails as "Caribbean Express", but most of her years in the North, she has served the Hamburg-Harwich route.
Cheers
(Guess, now we are off topic ;))
-
Thanks Bottman
If you have time (and in an appropriate thread :) ) I would love to hear more about these ships- I'm sure many others would to.
They are fascinating machines when one ees them from behnd the scenes.
(apologies to all for the off topic comment- now going back on topic :) )

I agree, it is very sparse indeed... Take a look at this photo showing the middle consols on the sistership Pride of Hull:
http://www.shipspotting.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=22349
Dynamics should still be priority 1 but hopefully the bridge interior will be updated later on...
-
Hi groennegaard,
I totally agree!!! That's why I'm looking for the ship dynamics with both eyes. And everything what's not correct, I´m telling the developer. And he tries really hard to reach my expectations than. So I never mind about the colour of the ceiling or something like that.. ;)
Cheers
-
cant anyone show a picture of a damaged or sinking ship if not a ship anchering >:( >:(
-
I have aksed about the same! No respons :( :'(
-
Here are some damages to see...
http://www.shipsim.com/ShipSimForum/index.php/topic,533.25.html
Well, a ship sinking needs a running game with suitable mission I guess, so it's not so easy to fulfill your wishes.. :-\
Cheers
-
Ok, gona love this game! ;D
-
On the movies I saw (all the ones of Bottman) was just someting wrog with the engine sound when you move the view. I hope that it gets improved a little bit till the release.
Btw, nice clips Bottman.
-
I think he did say there was something up with his soundcard and not to worry about it...
Stu
-
Yeah, you are right Stu. I´ve just checked the latest version of my drivers and now it seems to be okay... ;)

Excellent! :)
He he... Actually the Ship Sim-version of the Pride of Rotterdam is not sea-ready. The maritime authorities will not allow it to sail. Your video shows that the two masthead lights are positioned at the front of the ship - one on monkey island just above the bridge and one in the radar mast. The 'International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea' Annex I concerning 'Positioning and technical details of lights and shapes' states:
3. Horizontal positioning and spacing of lights
(a) When two masthead lights are prescribed for a power-driven vessel, the
horizontal distance between them shall not be less than one-half of the length of
the vessel but need not be more than 100 metres. The forward light shall be
placed not more than one-quarter on the length of the vessel from the stem.
This means that on the Pride of Rotterdam (215.1m OA) there has to be at least 100 metres between the two masthead lights... :-\ The original has a mast by the funnel with the aft masthead light but this mast is not on the Ship sim-model... That is a shame...
-
One thing I did wonder about the PO Rotterdam video. To me it didn't seem to be pitching very much for the size of waves- from the outside view anyway.
The bridge view showed a fair bit of movement. I don't know, maybe the real ship has excellent stability.
Still looks very convincing indeed though. I'm astounded by the texture of the sea and waves.
Stu
-
You'll be amazed at how realistic it actually is ;)
I've never been seasick, but I get close with this lol
-
But, Mr DJM... There is a problem with your beta test.
As you haven't been on a ferry, I think you should send ME your beta copy and I'll test it for you. It would save you an awful lot of time, and I wouldn't charge you for the help.
Stu
Worth a try ;)
EDIT: Maybe not worth a try.

Yes, ut like waiting for the Pride of Bilbao during a storm... you know its coming, but it's so boring hanging around waiting.
Stu
-
Keeps your interest alive though I bet ;)
It's worth the wait, believe me ;D
-
Oh I can see that.
I travel on ships a lot and (my knowledge is realy based around ferries- ie PO Rotterdam) it 'feels' right from the videos anyway. The shot aft of the bridge along the side looks so convincing.
One thing, I've noticed there are panels/windows along the top of the screen that are opened by key/mouse and includes things like engine RPM etc. Any chance you could enlighten us as to what else is there- couldn't see too well on the videos.
Stu
-
Most of that information is stuff like 'depth', 'COG', 'Waypoint details' and other useful info ;)
All adds to the game in my opinion :)
-
Someone said somewhere here (ss06) that there was a rate of turn indicator. I've never seen one. Have you?
I agree that it is in a league way beyond 06 though. I'm actually going out to buy another computer just to run this as my laptop isn't really up to 06 let alone the demands of 08.
Without crossing the thread with the 'minimum spec' thread, can I ask what spec you tested it on? Or what machine the videos were produced on.
Stu
-

<snip>
Stu
The rate-of-turn indicator came with (I think) the 1.8 patch, and it's another line in the window that has the GPS info (COG, dist. to waypoint, etc.)
Cheers,
Michael
-
Ah right. Thanks. I've not installed 1.8 yet

Fantastic photos everyone!

Haha! The old Dry Cargo ships. Can't have a simulated harbor without them. I'm gonna miss driving them...until then are uploaded to 08.
