Am I right ?? Is this a POD propulsion system ?? Isn't it a chain ferry.
Obviously, maybe this is only to move from one side of the river to the other side. Refers to the "wire-ferries" I know, they use the wires to operate.
Well, but if this is a POD system - I love you ;D
Nevertheless, very good work and I voted for IsaDora. It sounds like a south european grandma - all the time reliable, strong, calm but don't treat her!!

Yes it is a chain ferry! ;) But they have motors too! ;)
she here: http://www.destia.fi/lautat/Tekn/ttMossala.htm It is a motor (propel) under the boat! Gona make it more like that! But i can give this boat i 2versjon! ;) One small chain! And a littel longer wid Pod-system, if you mean that the tug's have ;) Like that russia tug in ss06 :)

Looks really good!!! But I agree with BlackBat, a chain ferry should be towed by means of winches and a chain or a strong steel rope only. Well, the "classical" chain ferry reaches the other shore just by using the rivers stream and without any other propulsion aboard. But your ferry was perfect as a small river ferry or as commuter ferry to little islands off the coast.
Go ahead, it's great!
-
It is great. Shame itm can't go into shipsim... :'(
I REALLY likie it. Great job J3nsen!

Hello,
Having just learned that the chain ferries were also called "reaction ferries" (used to know very well the Weserfähre, between Hann. Münden and Höxter), I found a very informative site (in German only, alas)
http://www.fjordfaehren.de/bi/binn.htm about inland ferries in Europe.
Couldnt this chain ferry be used in Cowes in ShipSim2008?
Regards,
Luc

Okai, i can make a ferry type like this in not Chain versjon! ;) Some thing like that one! ;)

WooHoo!! ;D

Hmm, I don't understand how a ferry can be a "chain ferry" but also have motors and azimuthing props. I'd think "Kimberly" is a perfectly good "non-chain" ferry and very similar to many I have ridden across rivers.
Even in the US there are still a few ferries -- a famous one is in New Orleans, across the Mississippi -- the "Algiers Ferry." Was the subject of a movie a few years ago -- concerned a terrorist plot to blow it up.
Cheers,
Michael

About all chain ferries have motors! Is just the line/chain they follow! Look at this one ;)

Motors under! ;)

OK, I was thinking of chain ships -- the sort that used to be common on rivers before screw propellers were well developed. They pull themselves along the chain by a sort of sprocket wheel, pulling it up from the bottom ahead of them and dropping is down astern. And there are ferries that operate on the same principle, one even on the Isle of Wight (or so I am told).
Cheers,
Michael

i know, we got one like that on swedish site! :P Nössemark, Lee Flora, Sund - Jarenleden (Dalsland)

why does VStep not want it? I think every good model would be a nice thing to add. If they convert it, people can deside by themself if they like it and like to download or not? ??? would be a good addition to the game anyway.

you are good:)

Hehe, try to tell them that :P xD

hi j3nsen,
good, nice work
greetings,

A very nice model.
Just on the point of what constitutes a chain ferry, my experience is that they have a chain running along the seabed which comes up under the ferry and runs over 2 gypsies (one forward and one aft) by driving the gypsies the ferry is moved along the chain.
-
Greetings,
yes,you did a very nice job to,i like that picture were she is in the water.
With the cars on,it looks great.
If this is your first one,hat off.
Regards

haha i overscaled it, i thought it was an aircraft carrier :D. that looks nice J3nsen. You make some very nice looking boats. Keep up the good work
-
Yeah it's a dissapointment that VSTEP doesn't want this model but it is understandable, they would have to rewrite alot of code to put it in with chains running across rivers and other ships having to go around the chains and all. It seems to me they want to keep Ship Sim as accurate to RL as possible so just throwing this boat in without the chains wouldn't be keeping with RL. But definatley a nice boat, please keep it up and submit more and maybe you'll get a couple in some future updates!! Just from ;looking thru the forums it looks like Ship Sim will only be as good as we make it! I think it's great that they are so picky
