Title: Other Sims

Dont worry! I think there is nothing wrong with Shipsim [its great!] but are there any other Boat/Ship/Sail sims around? Sail sims preferably.

Well, there is virtual sailor :)

There is a specific sailing sim called Virtual Skipper ;)

Isn't there one called Sail Simulator too?  I think so, IIRC.  :)

And, if you don't mind a little less accuracy on the dymanics side and like to blow ships out of the water, then Silent hunter 3 and 4 are quite nice. (if you like that kind of thing)

And there's a few more naval sims too. But they focus more on the warfare of course and less on accurate ship handling or ship behaviour.

I have Sail Simulator 4. It is very good for learning how to sail, from very small boats up to Volvo Ocean racers. It requires quite a low grade graphics card to operate but for some reason it does not work well on my present computer which has an Nvidia 7500LE card. On an absolutely basic Dell Laptop it works perfectly. Try the link <www.sailsimulator.com>

I have virtual skipper to,it's nice to sail this. You can start very easy with sailboats(automatic sails),or you can do this the hard way.
Also you can play online, but i tryed it a couple of times, not enough to give you more of my experience.

Marc

There were a couple of shipsims, however they were not so accurate.
Vstep saw the benefit out of it,and they started with shipsim2006.Microsoft started now to get ships into their FS-series,however i think their planes are more accurate in flying, that their ships in sailing.
Maybe in a few years,it's all working out fine.

Marc

Theres a game called "Destroyer Command" which pretty much gives you command of a WWII destroyer.

I am still using Silent Hunter 2. I run it in real time (no acceleration) and so far have spent three years at sea.
