Title: Anyone in the navy?
Post by: Lynx101 on January 11, 2008, 22:08:06
Hello there! Is anyone on these forums in the navy of their country, particularly the royal navy? I am planning on joining when I am older and it would be cool to speak to someone who has been or is currently in the navy. thanks!

Hi Lynx101

I was in the RNXS & the RNR and my other half was also in the RN. We will happy answer any questions you have. For the record we both loved it and miss it big style.

Cheers

Why dont you look on the royal navy web site? And theres that advert on the T.V. that tells you how to find out more about the armed forces, their web site may even have its own forum to discuss things like this.

alright no need to get like that about it. I am currently in contact with my local RN careers office and am well in to the recruitment ladder. I have been on their website many times and check it almost daily for news. I have also seen the adverts.

Hi Lynx,

I served for 7 years in the Merchant Navy as a Deck Officer.   In fact i acted as Officer Of the Watch (3rd Officer, ) Navigation Officer as 2nd Officer and as the Chief Officer i was the ships general manager (like the XO on warships).   I served mainly on product Tankers (up to 47,000 DWT) but also on Cable Layers and Dive Support Vessels.    Though the Merchant Navy is primarly different to the role of the Royal Navy I really enjoyed it and would recommend it.

These days I am a Superintendant and still get to occasionally go to sea in a command role..but not full time!

All the best and happy sailings to all  :D

This link will take you to the Unoffical RN site Rum Ration, where there are lots of people ready and willing to chat and advise. http://www.navy-net.co.uk/cpgn2/index.php?prevtheme=RN

I'm ex RNR (Lt). So if there's anything I can help with ...
