Capt should be keel hauled for putting to sea.

Sorry. Just seen a more appropriate place to have put this, but can't delete it. Sorry mods.

Oh my God there must have been some injuries aboard that ship.
-
This is in a tight area (apparently a strait in New Zealand) where the normal ocean waves "trip" and break, so there is serious forward movement of water. So the ship is bouncing a little, but actually doing OK considering.
These waves are much more steep, however, than anything one encounters on the open ocean.
Cheers,
Michael

Now you know why I have never sailed :P

??? Do what?
It is normal to take a ferry out in weather like that? It is one thing taking an ocean going tug in weather like that, when all the crew are experienced. Quite another when most of those onboard are passengers and likely to have freight on deck.

I agree! :o Do they make passengers wear seatbelts or something, because that movement would surely throw people off their feet!
-
not to mention seriously reduce the lifespan of the hull... the strains must be enormous.

i bet there were quite a few full barf bags on that ride ;D

So do I Dan. But when the deck is moving 12ft below you, there is only so long you can take that!

Greetings,
I was in 1988,on a sailtrip from Ostend to Geurnsey in weather like this. The vessel was 19 meter and our crew, which i was part of.Was realy competent.
However, this weather gets on your nerve-system,and you get very tired.
Now these days,i still like to sail, but i dont need this kind of weather anymore,to get exited.
If i'm in,than so be it.
Give me a 5 or a 6 beaufort,and i'm realy fine.I also think,it has to do with age.
Regards
Marc

Hehe you should have a ride on the St. Clare Wightlink Ferry, one of this biggest car ferrys going to isle of wight. went on her in a seriouse storm when all the other ferrys were stoped. i wouldnt do that again. car alarms everywere, water coming into the doors, the actualy ferry was tilting at about a 40 degree angle and coming back.
