Hello
When I try to control the direction of the ferry in this mission it is rather like taking the proverbial jellyfish for a walk on the end of a piece of elastic! The craft responds quite readily to my keyboard's port and starboard key strokes, but when I then cancel them to go straight ahead again it continues to divert to port or starboard for a completely unreasonable period of time and in fact it is almost impossible to control this ferry properly. This does not happen with any of the many other craft that I have on SSE. Can anyone advise me -please?

Which ferry are you referring to ?

Hi Salty Dog
I am referring to the ferry that runs in 09 Back from the yard.

Further to this, I find that the same vessel, in ferry Mission 10, "Preparing for a journey", does exactly the same and even goes round in a complete tight circle even after the controls have been centralised!

Hi struggler,
The ferry which is bothering you is the Maasluis ferry. This one needs patience and practice to master. The watchword is "Gently". If you click on the link at the bottom of the post below you will find full & detailed instructions on how to drive this little "angel". ::) Not the easiest vessel to handle but fun when you get the gist of it.

Indeed, I would try sailing the Rozenburg in Free roaming before attempting a mission.. :)

Salty gives excellent advice for you. There is a simple, if not totally correct, method to handle "Rozenburg" and that is illustrated below. Use the drive lever from one motor and the transverse lever from the other one. (i.e. using motors at opposite ends of the vessel). At full speed on the driving motor you will get a maximum rate of turn of approximately 320 per minute with the transverse lever fully to one side, this will quickly reduce to zero when the lever is centred. If you reduce speed you will get a faster rate of turn but you must be careful not to get the balance wrong. But as Saltydog says, it is very well worth playing about in "Free roaming" until you get more competent with handling her.
