Title: Could this system run Extremes or 08?
Post by: K Jack on January 22, 2014, 11:16:24
Hey guys, before my birthday last weekend i did order a laptop to replace my AMD V140 powered laptop and it comes with the following specs:

Intel Core i3-3120M 2.5 GHz (3rd generation) Dual Core Processor
Intel HD 4000 Graphics
6GB DDR3 RAM and 750GB (5400rpm) hard drive

I did try to ask the question under my thread in the other part of the forum but apparently i get the silent treatment
By chance could anyone tell me if this would still run 08 or Extremes especially under windows 8? Thanks in advance. BTW, i'm aware HD 4000 is a integrated gpu so it may not handle any on highest settings but i'm still curious to know if it would run with reduced settings.

Regards
K Jack

Hi K Jack,
I am not an expert but your Processor, RAM and Hard drive would be OK for SS2008, however I am not sure about that integrated graphics card. Possibly you could play SS2008 but I very much doubt you could succeed with SSE. Sorry I cannot give you a more specific answer. Checking on the internet I find comments like:- "HD4000 and gaming should not be mentioned in the same sentence". ??? :-\ If you have already ordered the laptop I can only suggest you download the Demo versions of the games when it arrives. Then You can see for yourself how things work (Or not, as the case may be.)

Regards,
Angus.

Well you can do what I did when I got my next to the last computer which had HD4200 graphics, 4 gigs of ram and a 3.0 ghz processor, AMD by the way. Go get the demo and see if that runs. It didn't for me but all computers seem to run different but my old computer ran SS08 maxed out and extremely smooth frames.

Hey, I'm no expert with integrated graphics but I can play ship sim on my laptop which runs an older version of integrated graphics and it's real glitch. Best advice to you is to try the demo on the ship sim site!
Intergrated graphics isn't supported by Quest viewer (the game engine) but it can play, but as I said it can be glitchy
Otherwise your system looks fine!  :2thumbs:
If you do it, can you let us know the results so we can help others in a similar situation.
Thanks

Hello guys, well i got my new system and here's the results i could get playing under ship simulator extremes demo:
at high settings playing the mission "tourist" i'm getting frame rates between 10-18, on medium settings i get between 19-23. Sorry i didn't do the demo on low settings but i should do it near this weekend. However, whilst playing on the mission "whaler" i notice a astonishing increase in frame rates playing the mission under medium settings, sorry i couldn't get the frame rate for this but it was really impressive as though my system have a dedicated graphics card.
Overall i could say that the Intel HD Graphics 4000 is fine for the game only between medium to low settings under my system. Thanks guys for recommending me to download the demo, i might do the same for SS08 but at a later time.

Regards
K Jack

Hello guys, well under SS08, the Intel HD Graphics 4000 has done well at maximum settings. There would be one or two environments i witness lagging but overall the system handles the game like a pro. I'm hoping Captain Cadet is paying attention because i'm letting him know so he can help the others who maybe using the same integrated graphics and how it performs on these games. Thanks again guys.
