Is a standard USB joystick compatible with SSE?

Mine seems to work fine with it. I'm using a plug-and-play stick from Trust:

I cannot test it right now but I believe I had to fiddle with the calibration to set the throttle right. Because the 0% position of the throttle made my ships sail backwards.

So in general I would say yes, the game supports Joysticks, but the effect differs from each manufacturer.

I can provide some basic assistance, but I don't know all features from any joystick. So for in-depth assistance or questions it might become hard.
If your joystick is similar like mine, just plug and play, you will be done real quick as most features are often all set properly by default.  ;)
