I apologise for interrupting this topic everyone :)
shipfan55, this topic was created for ferries, not for you to alter the title in your reply and post what you like. Your post was removed.
Regards.
DJM.
-
Yes good point to make their [RWP]DJM
THIS TOPIC IS ONLY FOR FERRIES NOTHING ELSE
-
Color Line of course, my employer ;)
First of all because there are many beautiful ferries in the fleet, including the brand new Fantasy and Magic :)
-
To be absolutely honest I have always thought that ferries were particularly ugly ships (sorry guys!) especially some of the modern ones. Older ships like Norland are a bit nicer, especially before she was lengthened, but the new ferries are rivalled only by some of the new cruise ships for ugliness.

Whey everyone is entilted to an opinion and of course your's is welcome. :D

Hey, where's the TT-Line to vote?
Okay, took "Others", but now you know what that should be. ;)

Hey, where's the TT-Line to vote?
Okay, took "Others", but now you know what that should be. ;)
Have you a favourite TT-Line Ferry and yes sorry I missed it off. :)
-
So I've added TT-Line to the poll. ;)
-
I'd like to see some smaller ferries like those operated by Caledonian MacBrayne off the west coast of Scotland.
You can view some of the vessels here (http://www.computing.dundee.ac.uk/staff/irmurray/ferries4.asp).
There is a tremendous variety of vessels in a small area such as the Firth of Clyde where we have 11 different ferry routes + a seacat route to Ireland along with the preserved vessels like Paddle Steamer Waverley and MV Balmoral.

Even though I voted for Stena Line, I think that Caledonian Macbraynes are very nice ferries. I took a few such as: Oban-Mull, Ballycastle-Rathlin Island and Mull-Iona. Some maybe small but they can be big too ;)
-
So I've added TT-Line to the poll. ;)
Yes, one of the TT-Line ferries is my favourite. Thank you for adding it to the poll, but now my voice is gone for "Other". Interesting, if anyone else will choose TT-Line.
-
Sorry for that em well all know that you wanted to vote for TT-Line. ;)
And anymore favourites off anyone? ;)
-
some of those ships a building up some rust near the water line
-
Ships which rust near the water line is usually due to travelling through ice (unless of course they have rusted everywhere else as well!)
The ice is quite abrasive and knocks all the paint off at the waterline which allows the steel to rust.
That or the yard stuffed up the paintjob in the first place, which is not unknown.
-
some of those ships a building up some rust near the water line
Ok, rusty ships it is.
But lets get back on topic please. :)

Sorry cant get the details yet, but here is the St Sunniva a P&o ferry witch ran beetween Scrabster [Scotland] and Stromnes [Orkney]
I thought I recognised her....
Built as Djursland in 1972, later named Lasse II (74-79), then became nf Panther (for the Normandy Ferries Dover Bolougne route, 79-87), St Sunniva (87-2002), last known as Faye (2002-)

Anymore people. :)

Hi, I'm new to this but my favourite line is P&O and The Pride of Bilbao has my vote as favourite ship. I worked on her for two years. She runs from Portsmouth to Santurzi which is in the Basque region of northern Spain. This is a regular route, (twice a week), through the Bay of Biscay. Unfortunately I don't have any statistics on her but I was told that she was a car ferry originally built for a route that would take her through ice. She certainly handled all that the Bay of Biscay could throw at her.
-
Ok I've decided not to lock the poll because I need as many people as possible to reply and I have contacted Stena Line, Brittany Ferries, Color Line and (P&O ferries- incase they wish to have another vessel as they are so popular) to see if they want to add a vessel into the game. :D
-
Stena line! stena line! stena line! stena line! ;D
-
Ok I guess your a Stena Line fan. LOL. :D
I've heard back from only one but until I get a clear answer off them I'm not saying who! ;)
-
i vote for brittany ferries, normandie, lovely ship :)
-
Not sure what some of these are but i vote (in SS 2008) P&O Ferrys.
ONLY ONE I KNOW!!! ;D

Ok, but if you type the name into google images you will soon see! ;)

My favourite Ferry
Built as Prins Filip for the RTM Dover-Oostende service in 1991, although she did not enter service until 1992. Withdrawn 1997 when RTM ceased operations. Bought by a Stena Group company in 1998, and chartered to P&O Stena Line as Stena Royal for freight operations between Dover and Zeebrugge. Charter extended and renamed POSL Aquitaine. In 1999 began to carry passengers again on the Dover-Calais route. Transferred to P&O in August 2002 and renamed Pride of Aquitaine. Received new P&O livery for 2003 season. Chartered by P&O from Stena Line until 2005, she was retired early in May 2005. In October 2005 she started a new service from le Havre to Portsmouth as Norman Spirit, operated by LD Lines.
-
I like that ferry also...
It's not my favourite but I like it, especially in the LD Line colours. :D
Here is a really good shot of her from http://www.shipspotting.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=314206 (http://www.shipspotting.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=314206)
-
Hi!
What about also ferries of companies in mediterranea like SNCM, Tramediterranea or Corsica ferries?
-
Greetings,
I was ones on the "Prins Filip",she was a beauty. To bad this company has gone.along with the vessel, out of the belgian harbour of ostend.
Marc
-
True True, well I'm from Ostend so I've known it all of my life. Even un uncle of me worked on it :).
Luckely Trans Europe Ferries came to Ostend (along with Ferryways) and brought some of the old ships back into service => Prins Albert & Prinses M-Christine (and kept a lot of jobs).
-
Hello Bjorn,
At that time i found it very strange, first they ordered to build the "Prins Filip",and just a couple years later they stopped the company(RMT).The vessel was how old?maybe 3 or 4 years old?
Last time,i wanted to go to Ramsgate,so i made contact with the new company.Well, they told me that for the moment only peoples with cars can go on the ferrie.I have no car,and that was not possible to go with them.
One option they gave was to go to Calais, how would i get there?
I remember times that i went 3 or 4 times in a year to go to Ramsgate, with Sally lines.and no car was needed.
Marc
-
Wasnt this poll closed?
//E. H
-
I need alot more vote than I got but I closed it and then realised it was stupid because only about 100 people had voted out of 16,004 so I thought I would keep it open until 1.1.2008. ;)
-
Don't be scared to post we don't bite! ;)
But I do! ;D
Caledonian MacBrayne ferries are on top of my wish-list. Great variety of ferries and most of them have served on a variety of routes as well.
Kev
-
BC Ferries—one of the largest ferry systems in the world.
36 vessels serving 47 ports of call.
Requires a Puget Sound environment.
-
Yer, I like some but not others! :)
-
Isle of Man Steam Packet...
with the Manxman
-

or.....how about some stuff from the Irish Sea? Stena, P&O, Norfolkline, Seatruck, Celtic Link, IOMSP etc
-
... ;D I've only just come back from a long break but I totally agree Norfolkline ferries are indeed nice! ;D
-
I voted "other" because companies like SNCM, Corsica ferries and Trasmediterranea are in this list. I would like to see some ferries of these companies.
-
I would say my favorit ferry would be M/F NORRØNA because thats the only way to travel out of my contry with ship
The companies name is Smyil-Line
-
I voted "other" because companies like SNCM, Corsica ferries and Trasmediterranea are in this list. I would like to see some ferries of these companies.
Sorry for the poll nit having everyone's desired company I just didn't have the time to add everyone.
But thanks for voting. :D
-
Under the "Other" column I would have to go with:
1. Alaska Marine Highway Ferry system.
2. B.C. Ferries.
3. Washington State Ferry System.
In that order.
Kevin
-
I voted for Color Line because they've got so many beautiful ferries, but i'd also like an adriatic ferry - for example one of superfast, anek or minoan...
-
How about the worlds largest car ferry. The MV Ulysses. Travels Hollyhead Dublin. The side thrust is 4 times as much as its main engines.
-
Hi Dustybin,
could you explain that a bit? As far as I know, the mentioned vessel has three bow and one stern thruster, each 2,400 kW, but four main engines too, each 7,800 kW! That makes a difference of 21,600 kW!?! And there are a few ferries longer and larger, with more passengers and more freight capacity! Guess you have seen Irish Ferries commercial some where?
Cheers and merry Easter...
-
Hi Dustybin,
the worlds largest car ferry. The MV Ulysses
Just for challenge I looked for larger ferries than M/V Ulysses and I found "M/V Moby Tommy"... :D
-
"Moby Tommy"??? The good old "Ariadne"/"Ariadne Palace"??? She is far away from any other mentioned vessel. With GT 28,007 she will not meet the largest 30 ferries in the world. Top scorer today: "Color Magic" with GT 75,027!!! The same in any other category.. ;)
Cheers
-
Ok,
I actually just had a quick look at the length, no other parameters. I think M/V Ulysses is about 208m length, The M/V Moby Tommy 212m ans sure the Color Magic 224m. I didn't look at the tonnage.
You are right for sure Bottman!
:D
-
Well, it doesn't matter - I love all ferries! ;D
-
Hi all,
It was on the Discovery Channel programme Megaships. I think you'll find that she is classed as the largest RoRo because she has bow and stern doors and the longest amount of lane length. The side thrusters are powerful enought to push her sideways into force eight gale winds and either pull her of the berth in Hollyhead or Dublin. No matter what the weather stormy or calm she still does the crossing in 3 hours and 15 minutes.
Or is this another Lepricon story?
-
budbud,
The ferry ur talking about is only 208mt in lenth. I looked at the ferry companies specs on her.
Dustybin
-
Okay, Dustybin,
you are right in one point - the bow and stern access. But the largest by lanemeter are the new Finnlines vessels and the re-built STENA BRITANNICA, the largest by cars is our sim-ferry PRIDE OF ROTTERDAM (and PRIDE OF HULL resp.).. ;)
-
In my job I travel a lot by ferry. Between Ireland and the UK, Uk and France,Spain,Holland and Belguim and also Italy to Greece. The ferries there may not be the biggest, but the fastest conventional ferry. Superfast, Anak, Minoan and Blue Star and full of luxury for the 19 hour crossing from Ancona to Patra and the 36 hour crossing from Venice to Patra via Corfu and Iginamitsa(cant spell this one properly itd Greek). Top speed in the range of 30 to 40 knots. and not a roll from them.
Has anybody heard what sort of price the new addon is going to be and what are the eight ships we're allegedly getting and also why Padstow, used to go there for cream teas and ice cream.
Dustybin
PS Still would like to see a friendly warship or two ( no USNS as they like friendly fire)
-
Dustybin,
Can't we have a discussion in here without resorting to attacking certain countries. The beauty of an international group like this is that we try to transcend national borders. BTW USNS vessels are Merchant Marine Ships that support Navy operations they are crewed entirely by civilian mechant sailors. They are not combat ships. USS is the designator for U.S. warships. While it would be nice to see some coast guard type vessels in here, I am one that would stand against having warships in the game. My reason is quite simple. Having spent four years of my life in a combat zone, directly engaged on many occasions, i see no reason to purposefully replicate vessels that exist for no other reason than to destroy human life. Guys, I apologize for sliding off topic. I will leave it at that.
Kevin
-
That's OK we (They) ;D Understand
I personally want The Cape Cod line in Massachusetts but, I'm fine with the Viking Lines.
-
Hi Kevin,
Sorry you took offense at my little dig. I have spent a lot of time in the States when I was in the Real Navy and it was the same then when we exercised with your navy just a little bit of friendly fun.
If USS is the designated prefix for your Navy, then why is it that on the gangway awning do they put USNS. I think you'll find that in the states merchant ships use USS as well and to show the difference the military have changed there prefix.
Anyway this is ferries and warships, I shouldn't have btrought it up.
Dustybin
-
I want to see Irish Ferries in there!
-
I want to see Irish Ferries in there!
Yeah, it's about time we take a break from English(not including NI), German and American harbours. ::)
Just my opinion.
-
What about a ferry running from Genoa in Italy to Grand Harbour Malta, both are complicated harbours. In Genoa its the customs that make it a problem and in Malta its the channel and the 90 degree turn to port through the breakwater and then it would have to be turned before berthing in Frenchmans Creek.
-
Dustybin,
I understand the context of your jab now, and in that context no offense is taken. As an Army sailor we took our fair share of jabs at the Navy. Infact, when I retired from the Army I took command of a Navy research ship. I rigged all the computers on the bridge to play the Army song when they turned on. We all thought it pretty humorus to have an Army officer in command of a Navy ship. If the ship you went on had USNS on the Brow, it had to be a Civilian (Military Sealift Command) ship. Either that or they stole somone brow. ;D Anyway mate, a quick google search using USS or USNS will list the ships with those designators.
While the different ferries would be nice, what we really want is the environments that they operate in. ;D And to have them connected in on line environment.
Kevin
-
Yeah, it's about time we take a break from English(not including NI), German and American harbours. ::)
Just my opinion.
If Irish Ferries were going to be added to the game the M/S Ulysses would be my choice. ;D

Hi KDS
I got no time for this. It will be a very long time until I can say "yes" since I'm up to taking a course to get the truck driver certificate in this month. So I'm unsure if I ever will have time for this interest. I'm not earning anything on it and my life unfortunately depends on money in my age. ;) I'm afraid that trucks may become my next interest if this goes well :D :D ;D

I would like to see the Seafrance moliere in ship sim. Her speed and size would be interesting to handle as a ship of her size. Also the design of her is nice.
-
Yer I like it. ;D ;D
-
I like my ferry, MV Joseph and Clara Smallwood, from Marine Atlantic
MV Joseph and Clara Smallwood was built by MIL Davie Shipyard in Lauzon, Quebec and entered the Gulf service in 1990. She is a roll on/roll off ferry designed to carry passengers and vehicles. She has been assigned to the 280-nautical mile Argentia, Newfoundland and Labrador to North Sydney, Nova Scotia route, while also providing service on the Port aux Basques route with her sister ship, MV Caribou.

We all know that you love PON. I was going to restart the model i was making for you with some of the new skills i have learnt on gmax but...
-

-
NOOOOOOOOOO!
-
What is Gmax?
-
GMAX is a 3 d modeling program.
Do u want me to keep up work on the model KDS?
-
I would love to, but please what ever you do DO NOT RUSH! :D
I would love to see it in the game but it has to be up to VSteps standards so it needs to be as detailed and accurate as possible. I will try to find the exact measurements for you. :D ;D
-
I heae sent DFDS Seaways an e-mail asking for the following heights and widths.
-
If they ever modeled the Thames i would like to see the woolwich Free Ferry
-
A legendery ship is Superferry 2 and one new tech ship blue star paros
-
My favorite ferries are the P&O Flagships, Pride of Rotterdam and Pride of Hull. They are the largest P&O ferries of the fleet, the twins are perfectley designed for the long trip between Rotterdam and Kingston Upon Hull.
-
Who woke this up?! Its over a year old!
-
Someone should un-lock the poll so we can have a play...
-
:-\ I don't think KDS comes around here any more.
-
Admin's can do it! - Not sure of this Forums permissions for mods, though...
-
Im pretty sure that moderators can unlock and lock, if they can ban, Jack
-
Who says Moderators can ban? - I don't know the Permissions of this forum.
Permissions by default don't allow moderators to ban (On SMF)..People can be banned on reccomendation of a Moderator/Staff member, which is then passed to the administrator for sentencing... ;D
Like Judge and Jury...
-
Don't ask how i know, i just do ;D
-
Just to Clarify,
Moderators can ban, BUT, it has to be approved first....!
Judge and Jury... :P
-
Im pretty sure that moderators can unlock and lock, if they can ban Jack
Haha... But Jack hasn't been band yet...?
-
There was supposed to be a comma :P
-
There was supposed to be a comma :P
yes but the comma would have made the sentence less interesting than "If they can ban Jack"
-
As I recall, a moderator can impose a ban on his own, but that is subject to a subsequent review and possible modification by an administrator or another moderator.
Dave, you could answer this question for us by banning Jack to see what happens.
-
Just to Clarify,

Judge and Jury... :P
Oh really? Are you sure about that? I mean You have to ask yourself if you feel lucky. Well do you, punk?
-
My banning finger is hovering over the keyboard right now.

I don't get it a little regarding what do you meant, Eric. Other forum members are not aware of Jack's being 15 (while he's yet still 14) years old, or other forum members are not 15 ?
-
I'm more 15 than I am 14...I'm 15 in a few days time!
Sorry about that Eric, I didn't see a harm in it...But better not to cause the little children to have nightmares....
Jack ;D
-
Oh wait, is this about the ban GIF?
-
I'm assuming so

Har, har, harrr... ::)

I'm not even talking about how he confused me with his saying! :o
He meant that while he aware that Jack is 15, other members aren't aware of Jack's real age?
or
He meant that while he aware that Jack is 15, other members are younger/older than 15?
-

This, I think
-
He meant (I think!), that I was 15, but others are younger...And that maybe an animation of, An animation, of an animation of a gremlin thing getting squashed with a "Ban" hammer which shows animated blood...Is too much for people younger than 15? :D

A little Halloween joke from Jack-o-lantern. ;D

If you're about members' age regarding their posting style/behavior on forum - then yes, the overwhelming majority of members looks rather younger than their factual age.
-
ZZZZZ!!! AHHHHHHH *Blood guts, Arm flies off*
HAPPY HALLOWEEN! MWAHAHAHHA!!

You, confused? :o ;D
Getting back on topic, before a Goderator sticks his oar in (nautical theme there)
Did anyone help you, WM, work out what that funny little red barge thing is?

My favorite ferry is Viking line
-
id like to see Stena Europe in the game. :2thumbs:
-
I said other, i want to see Alameda-San Francisco Farry Company, their ships are the Peralta, Marin, and Napa.
Really want to see it added to the game, especially the Peralta!!! :) :) :)
-
Has to be P&O Ferries for me!
All my life they are the only ferry company I have travelled on. It helps that the service from Hull to the continent is fairly local for me, and the ferries themselves are excellent!
It's great that SS has the Pride of Rotterdam, but I would also love to see the Pride of York/Brugge included too!
I have many a fond memory of travelling on them!
-
I would love to see the Isle Of Man Steam Packet Company added to the game, they are the BEST opertaor ever!
-
How about Stena Line with there big Catamerange (i cant spell). And the heavy ferry because they have various styles of them.
-
Hoverlloyd, Hovertravel, Hoverspeed... Take your pick...
-
Hoverlloyd, Hovertravel, Hoverspeed... Take your pick...
Seaspeed... ;)
And of course...
Norfolk Line... Brittany Ferries... Seafrance...
Stena Fantasia... looked the greatest in the Sealink colours...
-
Norfolkline? Who are they?
I know they deal in container shipping and in refridgerated transport, but not in ferries?
You must mean Tor Delfina, Tor Doverina, Tor Dunkerqueina?
-
Don't forget the Tor Humberquia, Tor Flandervian and the Queen of Scandidunquerquen.
-
In all seriousness it will be very interesting to see how the Norfolkline services are marketed in the future, the fact that the two Liverpool ships no longer have Norfolkline on the side would lead one to believe that the Norfolkline name may disappear altogether.
-
Just wait until the European people say that DFDS can't buy Norfolk Line - the boats will have to get it back on...
-
Sorry for draggin it up from the deep, but just to update:

You were right as well - Norfolk Line is no more, just DFDS Seaways; and now the Liverpool Belfast route then sold on to Stena Line
-
And the Larne - Fleetwood service to close.
-
It is indeed - real shake up on the Irish Sea, with Stena Line seemingly the biggest winner
-
nope!
stena line is on 41%
and PO Ferries is on 64%
-
I wasn't referring to the poll
-
nope!
PO Ferries is still more popular, they atleast care about SOME of their ships
stena line doesnt even care about any at all!, i bet the new Stena Hollandica will go rust in 1 year
-
nope!

better not let Stu hear you say that...
But I was refering to the Irish Sea, Stena Line has benefited a lot - no real competition in the north now
-
what about Irish Ferries?
-
They don't work above Dublin
-
oh! you meant Oh! sorry got confused
i get it!. yes then its Stena
-
Stena Line are in the middle of taking over the DFDS Belfast-Birkenhead, Belfast - Heysham and also Dublin - Birkenhead. As a Truck driver on these routes regular I hope that Stena can make a better job of it. I also travel the Koek van Holland to Harwich and Killingholme, and sometimes on the Europoort to Hull(P & O) and the Europoort to Harwich (Stena). What about the new Hollandica or Britanica. As Vstep is in Rotterdam its only 5 minutes down the road and they are fantastic ships.
-
nah, the ships dont look right in SSE,
and there is no point of having another rotterdam ferry when we already have one in Sse
but great ships though
-
