I've noticed That the forum has been becoming rather unstable as of late, With SMF saying the database is busy, or the page loadtimes being rediculously long...
Am I the only person having these issues?
-
Just happened here too... :-\

it is quite likely. There are probably a lot of people using the internet at the same time. It appears that most forum member are from Europe and those in the US use the forum when Europeans are asleep. They get better response than we on this side of the pond. Given the huge number of fourms and topics it is understandable than loading times take a bit longer. That is my view on the subject. My bandwidth sometimes get down to 50% when the kids get home from school and at weekends.

In Tortuga one can expect such mishaps now and then.. ;D

Hang on chaps, I'm in Britain, the servers are- I believe- in Netherlands.
The chances are that the packets of data that I am sending a matter of a few hundred miles are going through Australia one milisecond, then via Iceland the next- oh look, there's a packet going via China (I hope it gets past the censors)

Both these countries are in Europe. One way to find out where your packets are going is to do a trace route.

Oi, chum! Netherlands may be in Europe, but we British are NOT European! :C
-
Hahaha, you are whether you like it or not!
No, the issue with being European is not how far the data travels, but how many people are online at the same time, most of the members are your fellow Europeans Stuart, so therefore at the times when Europeans are more likely to be online there are more people on the forum and more load on the server, although I do have to say it has never happened to me, so maybe being in Africa helps!
-
I live surrounded by fields of rabbits, Clanky... but that doesn't make me one!
(for anyone who is offended by my European comments, two things:
1. tough
2. it's a political thing here regarding our membership of the eu- my friends in Greece, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Czech republic, Poland will all understand)
-
Clanky, if you are using inmarsat, then your data packets might be going via the moon for all you know!!!
-
Nope, I'm using good old Spanish mobile interwebs, the forum is probably fine on this, because no matter how slow the forum gets it's never as slow as my bloody connection.
When you say "Mañana" in the Canaries, they ask what is the rush.

Wow! I'll quote that and keep it before he changes his mind!
Inmarsat in middle of the ocean: "Sorry? I'm on the ship. I said I'm ON THE SHIP. S-H-I-P. Yeah. On the ship. Can you pick me up in 2 days? We're caught at traffic bouys and going to be late. I said, urgh, I'm ON THE S H I P"
Damned irritating passengers- don't they know this is a QUIET deck!

I could make a comment about certain Countries not knowing too much about irony, Danny, but I'd probably get into trouble for it
