All Docked  ;D

After facebooking Jack this evening he tells me that he is doing fine, and by the sounds of things he is really loving it. He is able to take the Clipper Ranger out of Larne by himself, but bring her in...not quite yet but nearly! :2thumbs: :captain:

Cont.

He was due for departure this evening at 9pm, however he said there it was an unusually light sailing this evening...so after the sounds of a roaring engine and screeching tyres to get to Larne, I was too late and only managed this lonely shot of them underway...only just. I did think I had a pretty good video of them turning around a few buoys...but in my haste I forgot to press the big red button that starts the recording  :C

How could you forget to press the big red button?
I Wounder if Jack was taking her out, or whether the skipper was still barking the orders, so to speak...
I'd guess Jack was taking her out judging by the distance between the ship and the bouy.

Morning all,

Great pics Mark - It's very strange to see yourself on the bridge .

Unfortunately I didn't get to take her out yesterday, since just before we came in we had some problems with the pitch on the Port engine, and so the Master didn't want to risk it. The engineers are having a look, but we're still having problems at the moment.

And Danny; The first time I took her out, I came onto the bridge, and the Master simply looked at me and said "Do you feel confident?"...I said yes (Although I was actually thinking what on earth is he going to ask me to do ), and he asked me if I wanted to take her out, which came as a complete surprise. I can't say I've heard of many cadets getting the opportunity to do any ship handling, so I consider myself VERY lucky. He just asked me "Have you been watching me?", I had, and so he just said "There's the controls, get the feel for her, do what you want". He didn't tell me what to do, he just wanted me to get a feel for the ship myself. Anyway, I brought the helm over to port about 30 degrees (facing the berth), put the bow thruster about 70% to starboard (thruster isn't very powerful on this ship), and gave her a nudge on the starboard engine, and so she crabbed sideways off the berth. It was a fantastic experience, I'll always be grateful to the Master for giving me the opportunity.

Also, we try and keep as tight up on that buoy as we can. If we're about 10 meters off it, the leading lights marry up behind us, so we're bob on track.

Anyway, see you all soon, I'm talking from the bridge computer at the moment, so I don't get the chance to come on the SS Forum often.

Kind Regards,
Jack.

Great pics LV, brings back some memories for me, Larne is where I am from originally, there is a bar on the other side of the harbour from where you took your pics called the Olderfleet, my dad can still be found in there most days holding the bar up (it has never fallen down yet, so he must be doing OK).

I have also done some agency work for P&O out of Larne on the Highlander and Causeway, nice ships.

Hi Clanky, small world! I'm just up the road, along the A2 in Carrick! Larne is easily my fav port out of it or Belfast. Too much hassle to get anywhere as close as you can at Larne. The Olderfleet :thumbs:on the corner of the road beside the terminal.

Currently sat at Larne waiting on Skipper Jack to depart with a mulitude of cameras at hand  ;D He's not even turned his radar on, let alone his engines!   :captain:

Even smaller than you think, I went to school in Carrick, moved there when I was about 10 and left when I was in my early twenties!

Jaysus, REALLY Small world Clanky! :o

So after Jacko had remembered to turn his radar and engines on, he gave me a wee toot ;D, before setting sail this evening.

If you zoom in on this one, you can see Mr Jacko himself on the bridge (centre to the right)

Unfortunately I can't see the pictures yet (Most sites like Tinypic are blocked onboard), but I'll have a look on my phone when we get into port :).

The problems with the pitch seems to have settled down, so the Master let me take her out again today - all went well .

Jack.
