Hi
Something I started last night. Now I know the Portsmouth "expansion" didn't get much response from VSTEP, but at least this time it can be either a expansion fro the Dover Environment or as a standalone environment, althought would be nice if it was added to Dover.

OK, so why should it be in SSE? So What has it got to offer/add to Dover well starting at Port Ouest (West Port)
*Has a petrol berth - not sure if the Latitude will fit though, but future smaller Tankers would be OK
(http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww134/The-Ferry-Man/Ports/Dunkerque/DunkPort-1.jpg)
*Has Terminal for Bulk Carriers
(http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww134/The-Ferry-Man/Ports/Dunkerque/DunkPort-2.jpg)
*Has A Cargo terminal - the Vermaas would be fine there
(http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww134/The-Ferry-Man/Ports/Dunkerque/DunkPort-3.jpg)
*Has several varieties of RORO berth and of course the Ferry Terminal
(http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww134/The-Ferry-Man/Ports/Dunkerque/DunkPort-4.jpg)
OK Further up there is a canal that leads to a small area, which is useful for inland Cargo Ships and also Push Tugs like the Hercules Atlas - one can be seen in Google Earth
The Bassin de Mardyck features some more fuel berths and a cereal terminal
Along the Bassin Maritime there are some more Bulk Freighter berths
Now Port Est - this features:
*Several quaysides used by a variety of boats and tugs, and also ferries have been laid up here from Dover
(http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww134/The-Ferry-Man/Ports/Dunkerque/DunkPort-6.jpg)
*Some Marinas
(http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww134/The-Ferry-Man/Ports/Dunkerque/DunkPort-7.jpg)
*Berth with a historical Paddle Steamer
(http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww134/The-Ferry-Man/Ports/Dunkerque/DunkPort-8.jpg)
*Museum Quayside with old vessels
(http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww134/The-Ferry-Man/Ports/Dunkerque/DunkPort-9.jpg)
*The Famous ARNO Shipyards/drydock - used by a whole host of vessels
(http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww134/The-Ferry-Man/Ports/Dunkerque/DunkPort-10.jpg)

hi ferry man
Its a shame Portsmouth got no interest because that would have been good.
So good luck with Dunkerque this is also a good one as add on to Dover would be ideal but stand alone good as well. Good luck and hope you get a response from Vstep with this one.

Nice start! Looks great!
I hope VSTEP will pick in on these environment :)
Good luck with it!

Thanks guys :)
OK just more why it is a good environment to have:
Vessels:
Agile Solution - Could come into the Port Est easily
Albatross IV - A sister has done Ramsgate-Dunkerque so no problem
Apollo/Aquila - Pilot ships always in and out
Arie Visser - Small rescue boat I am sure there is one somewhere
Big Apple - n/a (NY specific)
Bugsier 2 - Similar tug boats in Dunkerque
Cartagean Delight - Several Marinas
Cutter - OK not sure where it would fit...
Esperanza - OK not sure for this one either
Fairmount Sherpa - not seen on in Dunkerque, but in Calais if connected...
Fortissimo - Again marinas
Freedom 90 - well if connected to Dover, also there are beaches for possible landings
Herkules Atlas - One can be clearly seen in Dunkerque
Latitude - Possible, size dependant
Mamba - Marinas
Mare Australia - Inland waterways in Dunkerque
Jumbo Javelin - Possibilty
Ocean Prince - Possibility
Orient Star - Well if connected to Dover...
P6 Coastguard - seen in Calais, so probably comes to Dunkerque
Pride of Rotterdam - Specific ship for Rotterdam, though could fit
Protector - seen in Calais, so probably comes to Dunkerque
Rainbow Warrior III - No reason she couldn't come to Dunkerque
Red Eagle/Red Jet 4/Rozenburg - too small for Cross Channel
RPA12 - Could be OK
Sigita - in the marinas
St Pauli - possible harbour Tours
Vermaas - Cargo Temrinal
VSTP7 - Possibility
White Marlin - Suitable berths
Winner - Many suitable berths
So as you can see a lot of suitable vessels for one environment :)
*RIBS have been excluded since they are more onboard other vessels

This seems like a very interesting project, I'm following it!
Looks great so far

Great project! I hope Vstep pays attention... ::)
-
They always do.. ::)
But, it's always a good idea to actually contact them and ask them if they are interested in even doing the things that one would assume they would 'just do' because someone's been really busy with it.
As much as I like and would encourage these kinda initiatives, and as much as I am keen to see progress on such things, and to see Vstep do something with it, one has to realize that there's already a 'game plan' for most of what's coming or what's wanted in the future. And not everything fits into their plan just cause it's there.. they'll have to dedicate resources to such a thing. For example, expanding already exsisting environments is not as sound a business venture than creating something new that can be sold as a DLC, perhaps. And there are so many spots in the world that would be nice to have in the game, one can easily go and create a model of it.. but.. to actually get it implemented, takes a whole lot more of course. It's not VS. :)
Expecting Vstep to put a LOT of manpower and thus money towards including something that someone has modeled, isn't wise of course. The CCC environment already showed that it takes a lot of work on their part, and I reckon 3rd party expansions to already exsisting environment will lead to a lof of incompatibility issues, potentially. For one, it won't be uniform to what is already in game, unless it done 100% the same way. Which can mean they have to spend more time getting it to match, than they would when they'd do it themselves. So most likely Vstep themselves are better suited to actually go do that. And, you can't expand an environment willy-nilly, without some drawbacks on performance, and such.. the more you put in, the heavier it will become.
A standalone project has thus got more chance of success... but if it were me, I would go and ask vstep what they would like to do in the future, and if there's something in the plans that could be done by a 3rd party modeler. That has more chance than just going about and creating something that they might not even have set their sights on, and hoping they'll put it in the game. As nice as it may look, it has to be a sound business decision too of course. The work that goes in on their end isn't done by volunteers. It costs a lot of money, even if the modeling part, up to a point at least, is done by someone else. :)
So before you get stuck in and really dedicate an immense ammount of time to it, I'd check with them about the possibilities, TFM. You'll find they're always open to suggestions and good ideas!
Having said all that, great stuff TFM. Good luck, I'll be following your endeavours. :2thumbs:
Regards,
Fred

Hi Fred,
Thanks for you response :)
When I started the Portsmouth expansion project thread I did PM Swenson to see if such a project would be possibly, unfortunately I never got a response :/
Not sure if there would be a better place to contact?
Thanks again :)

No problem!
Sent you a pm just now.

OK Thanks :)

Anyone got any idea roughly how tall these cranes are?
http://www.flickr.com/photos/allyc85/5884268437/
-
That's a good question and one thing that will make it hard to build a realistic scenery.
For Now it gives three typs of bridges:
Panamax, Post Panamax and Super Post Panamax Container Bridges.
The last one is for the big ships with more than 7 000 boxes.
For this Port I would say Panamax could be ok, but at max Post Panamax.
Currently I have not my Data for this bridges, but I think this (http://www.racheledmonds.com/blog/page/2/) side could help.
Regards
Thor

You can see a bunch of containers stacked next to that crane.
If you get an idea of how high such container is you could get an impression of the size of the crane.
-
Thats a good idea
-
Of course what this port could really do with is a racehorse class ferry...
didn't someone start making one of those a while back, hhmmmmmmmmm :)
-
Now that sounds like a intriguing idea ;D
-
I think someone also started a Mariella class cruiseferry that would look rather perfect on a new route to Dumpkirk.
-
Very nice project
I'll follow it for sure and if you need any help feel free to ask me ;)
-
Those updates are very nice!
Keep it going! I'm certainly following the project! :)

Thanks Guys :)

Update, did this this morning, some silos and quayside factories/warehouses:

OK Today I have decided to add some of the inland waterways that criss cross Dunkerque:
Edit: More added
(http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww134/The-Ferry-Man/Ferry%20Models/Environments/Dunkerque/Dunkerquec-23.png)
This is pretty much it for the inland waterways, they go on of course, but if I add more I would end up in the South of France
Edit 2: The Dunkerque Lighthouse

Very nice!!! Keep on going the good work! :2thumbs: :2thumbs:
Love the inland canals! It's good for sailing with the RHIB's or the rowboat!
I really really hope VSTEP catches in on this project! It's worth it!
