HI Guys
Is anyone running SSE on a laptop computer? If so what kind? When I look at the system requirments I don't think I have seen a laptop that would do. Any info would be greatly appricated.

There is only one legendary laptop that can run SSE or any HD games, and that's the Alienware m17x custom built, otherwise a desktop would be the only option

Laptops were never really invented for (high graphics) gaming, so a (self built) desktop PC is (almost) always the best solution. Only a rare amount of laptops (as TM quoted one) are powerfull enough to run SSE smoothly or else you might get huge lagspikes and errors.

Well, thats not realy complete truth.
I have played SSE on a laptop, an Acer Aspire 7738G, with 2,13 GHz and a graphic card low as Gt240M. The funny is that the game run much better on the laptop than on the desktop, with 3,4 GHz and a Gt530. On the laptop so have I not have any problems with the game(except for the common bugs like bouncing quays and stuff like that). On the desktop so have the game crashed and many strange things happen, I am not sure how much comes from the new patch and from something else. It is a mystery for me why the game work much better on my slower laptop than on the much faster desctop.

Sorry TM, but that's nonesense. ::)
The M17x didnt even score higher than an average 7th place on the various top ten gaming laptop list this year. Even their own M18x is better, with more RAM, so the only one, it is not.
the Battalion 101 X7200 for example, has higher specs and does exceed the SSE requirements too. If any, I would say that one would be more suited for SSE than the M17x. (and that is incidentally the #1 on some of the lists for 'best of 2011')
But anyway,...
If the hardware is up to it, the game will run. And a crucial factor is of course also how you keep the machine tidy and performing well and up to date and such. But if the power is there, it should just perform.
Most laptops are indeed not really meant for gaming, but there are plenty of them that will do a good job provided they have the hardware to facilitate gaming and there are also those that are aimed at gaming specifically, though they are not that many and come at a greater price of course. But I've seen enough people play high end games on laptops too.
But when in doubt, the best thing to do is to try the demo!

I would also suggest the demo. I have SSE on a Dell XPS 17 and it works ok. But it wasn´t better on my desktop...the SSE seems to be not known for 30-50 fps. So I have 2-3 seconds fluently and then a short break of much less than a second. It disturbs a bit but it is ok and as I said, it wasn´t much better on my desktop.

Thanks guys for the info. I am currently running SSE on a desk top with 3.4GH and 1gb video card (ATI 4800) and it works very well at least to these 70 year old eyes. I didn't mean to set off a big debate about laptops but your thoughts are very interesting indeed. I will look into it more. Thank you so much for your help.

mmmmm can I borrow it for just for ever ;D But yeah, the main idea is to get SSE going with smooth graphics, smooth fraps and in HD, it's the only way to get the most out of it.Computers work in mysterious ways

I do run SSE on an Asus G74SX, as powerful as Alienware is and cheaper.
The only problem I found is that I got to bind all game controls, cause G74SX does NOT have LOCK NUM key :S
Anyway, I recommend it

I'm playing with an Alienware M17x and it works well, although I do not set graphic to max on MP because I lose fps otherwise. Could be due to poor performance settings or even internet connection though...

I'm running SSE on a laptop.
I didn't post before, but I saw the question again on another request for crash help topic.
I have an HP Pavillion dv7t that is a few years old. It's running a Core2 Duo P8600 @ 2.4GHz. I have 3Gb of RAM with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit OS.
The video card is the onboard NVidia 9600M GT with 512Mb of video RAM. I use eVGA Precision to overclock the video card. My stable settings are core clock of 600MHz, Shader Clock of 1500Mhz, and Memory clock of 480Mhz.
Finally, the HP Pavillion dv7 was a flawed design in that it couldn't dissapate the heat that was put off by the higher-speed CPU's that HP offered with the laptop. I spent a year figuring out why the computer would shut down randomly after running at 100% CPU for a few minutes. I finally traced it to the heat that was generated by the CPU.
To solve this, I undervolted the CPU using the abandoned RMClock utility for older CPU's. This has worked wonders for me in several ways: 1) I lowered the power draw from the CPU so that it can run at highest speeds without overheating, and 2) I enabled the utility features to down-step the CPU as the heat approached critical, trading a slight bit of performance for lower heating. It's not noticible when this happens, as full power is restored when the heat drops down.
When I play, I get about 12-14 FPS, which is not fantastic but is playable.

I'm running all SS versions on a laptop without any problem. Laptop is a few years old ASUS PRO57Series on VistaPremium with Duo T9300 CPU, NVIDIA GeForce 9500M GS graphic card .
