I got board so I thought I would make up a service history for my model ship which i designed and built. Here is the one for the ss Manchester
The SS Manchester, and her sister ship SS Liverpool were both launched in June 1912. They both weighed 1050 tonnes and were 220 feet long. They entered service in 1913 and made several trips to new York. When world war 1 started, the 2 ships mostly stayed in the port of London but eventialy they were pressed into active service, carrying supplies to the warfront. At 3:15am on November 13th 1915 after over a year of uneventful voyages, as Liverpool was sailing towards South Hampton , she was struck by 1 torpedo which struck her portside and crippled her. Unable to control the flooding the ship sank in 48 minutes with the loss of 11 of the 64 crew onboard, including captain whiteside who was was killed when the funnel colapsed and flattend the bridge. The survivors of the Liverpool were picked up by a near by British destroyer,
The Manchester survived the war and continued service for 17 years until she was involved in a collision with another cargo freighter. It proved to be the end of a long career and after repairs were carried out the ship was laid up in Belfast. In 1929 she was scrapped in Faslane, Scotland.
The wreck of the SS Liverpool has never been found…….
