On a Windows 7 PC, SS2008's performance would tend to be rather "jerky" (that was the way it was for me), but a "cure" was suggested somewhere on this Forum and it helped.
- First make a backup of the 'questviewer.exe' file in SS2008
- Copy the 'questviewer.exe' file from SSE
- Paste it into SS2008. (Say 'Yes' to any message that asks permission to overwrite the existing 'questviewer.exe'
file in SS2008.
Performance was pretty smooth after doing this.

To add to vin_suns post:- http://80.95.161.114/shipsim/forum/index.php/topic,24036.msg325543.html#msg325543
N.B. You must have Ship Simulator Extremes installed on your computer to be able to do this. Unfortunately I do not think you have the game on your laptop though. I'm afraid this is not a great deal of help then.
Traddles
The file below is the one to install over the original one. I "borrowed" it from SSE for you. I would advise that if you are not certain how to do this, DO NOT TRY as you could mess up your game.

Ah! Angus .... I had an inkling of idea that it was you who had given this great solution. All credit goes to you! Sorry .... I should have searched before I posted there.

Vinod,
I cannot claim to be the one who came up with this. I think it was Johan who put me on the right track.
KInd regards,
Angus.
