I just bought the game through Steam. It installed.
I press the PLAY button.
It goes through different stages of loading until it says INITIALIZING
After about 30 seconds QuestViewer crashes and it reads
Questviewer has stopped working.
WHAT DO I DO!
-
What to do:
So tell us what sort of computer you have, e.g laptop or desktop, then post your DxDiag over here, so some experts can have an in depth look at your configuration and give you diagnostics for the problem.Don't be alarmed if the computer is not meeting the requirements, at least you know spot on what you need to do next :)

I have the same problem mine is a hp desktop com

And what is a DxDiag

Hell Holst23,
From what I can see from you DxDiag your computer doesn't meet the requierments for playing SSE.
The CPU is clocked to low. 2.2 ghz instead of 3.0 ghz
Your memory is the minimum.
And your videocard is below requierments. 8500gt instead of the 8800gt.
I'm sorry to say, but with your current computer you won't be able to play SSE.

Hello Holst,
Snaky is right ......
Please see the attachment which gives details of the System Requirements of SSE

I seem to meet all the requirements but 1
I have 2.4 Ghz and not 3...
so i cant play the game? Lame. I guess there is no money back from Steam
UGH!

I would not worry too much about processor clock speed. A lot of people quote 3 Ghz as a minimum but it is simply not true.
My CPU is an intel Q6600 running at 2.4 and it runs SSE very well. you have to look at the minimum requirements more closely, what it ACTUALLY says is that a 3 GHz Pentium 4 or equivilent is required.
Your CPU is madly more powerful than the poor old P4 3Ghz in fact it has more than twice the power. Dont take my word for it have a look at the benchmark results here: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=AMD+Athlon+64+X2+Dual+Core+4200%2B As can be seen the P4 3Ghz scores 491 where as the Atherlon 64 X2 duel core 4200+ scores a massive 1155. It does get a little bit more complex because SSE will only use 1 of your 2 cores but even with one hand (or core) tied behing its back your CPU will win by a mile. This 3 Ghz thing is only a guide at best and people should stop blindly quoting it without qualifying their argument.
If your computer is not running the game I would look elsewhere rather than the CPU for the culprit.

Ok, well. This is all of my info
I have a HP Pavilion Entertainment Laptop PC
Windows Vista Home Premium
Service Pack 2
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8600 @ 2.40GHz
6.00 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
64 - bit
what else could be the problem?

Woops sorry trainship09 small mistake on my part I meant to quote holst23 your CPU & graphics card are different to his. I think his graphics card is below spec, not sure abpout yours.

@ Holst
Sorry for not mentioning this earlier ..... your main RAM is also low. With Windows 7 you require 3 GB RAM. Your PC has only 2 GB RAM.

Hi sydmichel, yes shipsim should run with the Q6600 but your CPU has 4x 2.4 Ghz and 6 MB L2 Cache. Shipsim can use more than one core, if you will look at the task manager/performance you should see that he use 3 GHz.
I doubt that the shipsim starts with a P4 3,2 ghz, even the core 2 duo E6300 with 2x1,8 Ghz is worlds better, but also not sufficient for Shipsim Extremes.
@ Trainship09, your P8600 has 2x 2,4 Ghz and 3 MB L2 Catch, this is ok for shipsim Ex. Only the 9600m GT is a bit weak and is below the required 8800 / 9800 Gt. I think this should be the problem.
So shipsim should run on your system, just not liquid. That is what minimum requirement will mean.

6.00 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT

This sounds like my machine.
I have the HP Pavillion dv7t, also with the P8600 and the GeForce 9600M GT. I have 3Gb of RAM.
I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.
I can run the game just fine, albeit with no more than 12-14 FPS.
Some things I did to boost performance...
1. I overclocked the video card to the max. After doing a lot of internet research on the video card, this card can take overclocking without overheating. I used the EVGA Precision overclocking tool. My overclock settings are: core clock 600 mhz, shader clock 1500, memory clock 480.
2. The HP Pavillion initially warned me not to upgrade the NVidia card to the latest version because it was not the OEM driver that came with the laptop. After a few years, though, I decided this didn't matter anymore, and upgraded to the latest NVidia drivers.
3. I turned off antialiasing within the game, and set the controls directly from the NVidia drivers. I have everything else to the max, except for turning off reflections and transluscent?
4. The HP dv7t from a few years ago (with the P8600) was notoriously poor at heat dissipation. My laptop would shut off randomly when running at max speeds. I finally tracked this down to CPU overheating (and SSE runs the PC at the max capacity). I needed to undervolt the laptop in order to keep the CPU temps low enough to sustain high performance indefinitely. I use the RMClock utility to do this.
5. I also run Game Booster from Iobit to stop most background processes. In fact, I also use the Task Manager to set Questviewer to High priority once the launcher starts is. I don't think that launching Steam with High priority will cause Questviewer to also launch at High priority, so I launch Steam normally and then boost Questviewer to High.
I don't think that this is directly responding to your problems, but I added to the thread to show you that your machine is capable of running SSE.
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling?

an I get those crash messages, altough it worked when I first got it installed an when ever I reformat my PC
so how do I get the proper updates for my system for steam?? a third party gamer system
