Title: I want to buy download but it won't let me.
Post by: CaptJR on September 20, 2007, 22:56:21
I click on the 'buy download', then when I click on 'checkout' I get a 'server not found' message. I have tried several times over a period of several weeks. Always the same error page comes up.

Hiya :)

I've just checked the purchasing system, works fine for me.  It may be a setting in your browser.  Try cleaning out your Cookies and Temporary Internet files, this may help :)

I've just noticed a possible flaw here, did you click 'Add to basket' before you clicked 'Checkout' ?

Hi DJM
Sort of got away for a while. I'm pretty sure that I clicked 'add to basket' before 'checkout'. Come to think of it I must have because when I got back to the main page I remember down on the lower left it said something like I'd had something to check out. I then tried checking out from there with the same results.

That's strange.  Did you try cleaning out your cookies and temp internet files as I suggested?

Also, I would check your settings in your browser, just in case something is blocking the page from showing correctly ;)

The purchasing system works fine for me, I've tested it a few times :)

I have Netscape on my work computer that essentially never gets used. Has no cookies etc. Got an error even quicker with this. So you know exactly how I got to the error let me tell you the clicks I made.

Starting at the main page - I clicked on 'How to Order'
On the next page I clicked on 'Ship Simulator 2008 product page'

As soon as I clicked on 'add to cart' it gave the following error.

_
'ERROR

The requested URL could not be retrieved'
_

Then down below that it said

_
The following error was encountered:

Invalid Request: Malformed request

Some aspect of the HTTP Request is invalid.

I guess I'll just hope they get a company to sell it in the US soon.
Thank you for your time.

I've just checked the purchase options again and had no problems whatsoever, have you tried resetting the browser to default options?

I still suspect that it's your browser settings as you appear to be the only person with this problem.

It could be something to do with the SSL options in your advanced settings ;)

It is peculiar that I'm the only one, but I can't see that it is browser settings when I've been trying two differ browsers on several different computers. The only thing that all this has in common is the same firewall on all the computers that I've tried. I can't fiddle with setting here at work. I have one other computer I can try it on at home.

Hmm....it may be your firewall blocking certain scripts then possibly.  I would give that a try ;)

I wouldn't recommend disabling it, but try different settings and check the Allowed Applications list, just in case something is being blocked.  That appears to be the only similarity, so the finger is firmly pointed in that direction I believe :)

I once saw an update thread that said that they were trying to get a US company to sell this. I can't seem to find it now. Would you know if there is any progress in that area?
Thank you

DJM,
If he has only tried it at work, he might ask the IS guy, or whoever is in charge of the company network. Many companies block access to sites that are not work related.
Marty

Often the block is triggered by the switch to secure purchasing mode. That would seem to be the case, as he can access the main site.

See post number 3 on this page. Have tried at home and at work. I have another computer, (a laptop) at home I can try.

You will need to scroll down a little :)

I've not heard any further updates about this recently, sorry.

As it turns out, I'm not the only one. I have had two friends try to buy it for me on their computers and neither one could get it done. Same problem. I don't know what is going on here. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that I'm in the US. I notice the price is listed in Euros.

When they clicked checkout it shows this address (https://support/contact+us.php). and says the page cannot be displayed.

Hopefully they will get it so US store eventually.
