--- BREAKING NEWS ---
(http://i56.tinypic.com/67v7u1.png)
I hate to say it but a large earthquake has been predicted for the West Coast of the USA.
Any time on SATURDAY 19TH MARCH 2011.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQXDt4VdS0E
and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkDiCjkggx8
The same man who predicted the 1989 world series earthquake on the West coast one week before it happened has once again predicted something very similar.
In 1989 it was nearly 7.0 on the richter scale. And 68 people were killed, 3,500 injured.
This was it in 1989:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hxTbqMH7-M
And the latest one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQXDt4VdS0E
Hopefully it won't be true but this guy has predicted all sorts of stuff and it's all happened.
There are lot's of signs such as millions of dead fish washing up all over the west coast at the moment which was the same as before. And it's thought to be a pre large earthquake sign (it also happened in Japan).
Please share your views...

I hope not :C

I dont live on the west coast which is good but, I hope it does not happen.

A major earthquake is always “imminent†off our west coast. A major hunk of Southern California is actually on the Pacific plate—separated from the continental US by the San Andreas Fault.
Up here in Oregon we have the Cascadia Subduction Zone offshore, which is potentially more dangerous than the San Andreas.
Along with that, we have a half-dozen active, or recently active, volcanoes in the Northwest.
Those dead fish don’t tell us anything we didn’t already know.
-
There are at least eight earthquakes of Moment-magnitude 4 or more daily around the globe—that I’m alerted to by email. Here are today’s:

Bye bye San Francisco :P
Nah it'll be alright, earthquakes are pretty much unpredictable, just because loads of dead fish appeared doesnt mean the world is going to make a major move.
We'll just have to wait and see
-
Hasn;t there been a lot of dead fish somewhere in Northern Europe? That was a few weeks ago... no big Earthquake...
*No big surprise seeing as we're on the middle of the Eurasian Plate
But to Marty you should listen...
What is the Cascadia Subduction Zone? I know the San Andreas Fault, but not heard of the Cascadia Subduction Zone?

I am telling you, the weather in thre UK over the past few months, whats going in Japan and now this!?!?!?!
It IS the start of 2012

Sounds logical, if there is movement on the west side of the Pacific Plate, sooner or later there might be a reaction on the East side..

What is the Cascadia Subduction Zone? I know the San Andreas Fault, but not heard of the Cascadia Subduction Zone?
Hi TFM,
A subduction zone is a place on the ocean floor where one tectonic plate—a large piece of the earth’s crust—is being pushed under another tectonic plate.
New crust is being continually made by magma—molten rock—coming to the surface in cracks in the crust. The magma flows away on both sides of the crack and cools to form the basalt crust. This process takes place at various ocean ridges such as the Mid-Atlantic that runs south from Iceland and the Ninety East ridge that runs south of India (actually, Bangladesh) in the Indian Ocean.
As the new crust is pushed slowly away from the ridge, it pushes against a continental plate—a piece of lighter, granite, crust under a continent. In southern California, this forces a small plate that Los Angeles, San Diego, etc. sit upon to slide northward along the San Andreas Fault.
Off the coast of Oregon and Washington, however, a small piece of ocean crust—the Juan de Fuca plate—is pushed under the edge of the continental plate at a place about sixty miles offshore called the Cascadia Subduction Zone.
Over Geologic time this has built our Coast Range and the volcanic peaks of the Cascade Range. The Coast Range is partly a piece of crust that was tilted up by the Pacific plate sliding beneath it, and partly from sediment scraped off the top of that plate.
As the edge of the Pacific plate is forced downward, it eventually reaches a depth where the temperature is high enough to re-melt the basalt, forming pools of magma about sixty miles inland.
That magma finds a way to the surface to create the lava flows and the volcanoes of the Cascades.

Marty

Hi
OK thanks for the explanation Marty :)
I wasn't familiar with the Juan de Fuca plate - its surprisingly hard to find a good detailed plate map on the internet... :(

The man who predicted that the world will end in 2012 is and idiot like every other fake predictors..
Why?
Cause when the year 2000 was about to come nearly everyone was scared that the world was going to end (Some of you must have been too small to remember this)
There was chaos all over the world that on new year all the ligths will go off and the electricity wont work. That we have to use candles instead and have to live in darkness.. So on new year i was going through my street and there were candles everywhere and even on the news people were scared about 2000 being the end of the world but none of that actually happened and still after 11 years nothing has happened. We still have electicity and lights..
You shouldnt believe such things..
And i know for sure thatsome of you must have got this of the *2012* film..
No one knows when the world will end but we can predict it. But no one really knows if the world will end on the 21st of December 2012.. A few years ago there was a concern about 2020 being the end of the world and that a large star will hit earth and we would all die.. But the star has now been said to hit is in probably 3000 years later..
Dont believe from what you see on Films.. They're just made for entertainment and action for families to watch.. As you already know that the whole film was made using blue screen so none of the effects were real.. The story was using the same base as a prediction from a man who said that 2012 is the end of the world and the film director used the ark of noah idea and some other geographical ideas ofthe earth heating up to make this film.
Lets just stay to the topic about Earthquake and not go to end of the world.

Hi TFM,
The plate map from Salty shows the Juan de Fuca Plate as that small area along the coasts of Washington and British Columbia. It is named after the Strait of Juan de Fuca—the waterway from the Pacific to Puget Sound and to one of the greatest ferry systems on the planet.

Marty

Ahh OK thanks :)
I will have to look into that then :)

I only have one thing to say all about these 2012 doomsday and the end of world malarkey....

listen
this is never gonna happen

by the time this happens we have died about 1000 or 10000 years ago

That will happen, its a matter of if, not when - just ask the dinosaurs... :/
But the Earth will still be there...

If that asteriod hits earth on december 21 2012
I have only 1 choice :(
I will just shoot myself in the head--> 10 seconds before the shock waves rippes curacao apart and of the map

no asteroids are scheduled to hit the earth on 2012.,..
i believe the last I heard was 2032...
And that may not hit...
-
sorry
if the 2032 asteriod does not hit
i have no worries to make ;D
-
look down. thats my post.
-
i see :P
-
Oceandream, An asteroid is going to hit earth and it will look like the picture you showed us..
But..
Scientists are working hard on making a machine that would be shot out into space and send to the asteroid to destroy it and make it into smaller pieces.. Those smaller pieces will also be made even smaller so by the time they reach earth they would only be a small rock (which still gives a powerful light when entering earth)
I also heard that in a million years our milkyway is going to collide with another galaxy to form 1,
Our solar system would look totally different.
But we do know that earthquakes are never going to stop..
-
TFK ^^ Im gonna send you a pm in 5 minutes, besure to check it

Not necessarily that big... that pic is a bit Over the top

they are? Where? The Next Manned mission to the moon has been cut due to budget problems... I doubt they are working on anything like that...

That is true - a collision with the Andromeda Galaxy
The effects aren't know, but the Solar System will probably not change much, although we might get kicked out the Galaxy, but that is unlikely...
But we do know that earthquakes are never going to stop..
Do we though? Earthquakes are caused by shifting tectonic plates, which are being shifted by convectional currents in the Earths mantle... and the Earths Core IS slowly cooling down... It could cool enough that the Mantle loses the convectional currents/solidifies...

The latest research shows that the esrth is heating up due to global warming, They said if the earth heats up more another plate could crack open due to the intense heat inside the earth..
I know that pic was a bit too big but the asteroid would probably be destoryed by the scientist or we would die.. Not all of us but some..
About the Galaxy collision.. They said that most galaxie's which collided looked deformed but ours is going to look like a giant tsar and that is quite a beautiful thing.. The magnetic power is going to keep is in place but we will be around for a few thousand years till we finally settle in place

Too bad. I was counting on it for backup if Congress struck down Oregon’s assisted suicide law.

I ain't scared of the huge tidal wave :-\
What I'm scared about is the thought of all those giant shipwrecks that'll be swept away with the wave, and smacking into thousands of souls :(
-
I also heard that in a million years our milkyway is going to collide with another galaxy to form 1,
Our solar system would look totally different.
Actually, from what i heard, we're heading for 2 collision courses...
The other collision is (if I remember) the Alpha Centauri.
-
I believe you been watching to much of Lost In Space
Alpha Centauri is from Lost In Space
-
I believe you been watching to much of Lost In Space

No, I never saw Lost in Space
We're on 2 collision courses with a smaller galaxy (definitely not Alpha Centauri-sorry) and our 'counterpart' galaxy (can't remember the name).

Enjoyed the posts foretelling that the end of the world is night- great stuff ::) However, special thanks to Marty and Salty for the serious bits, greatly appreciated :2thumbs:
Marty, seeing as you have the greatest ferry system in your part of the world, have you managed to get VSTEP to include it on the up and coming Ferry pack??? ;D ;D

Yawn..
The last major thing to happen to earth was 65 billion years ago, i can't see anything else happening here anytime soon.
People are far to gullible nowadays, someone pops up on the internet 'aahh the world will end', no it wont, remember with the large hydron collider or what ever? and everyone got their knickers in a twist over a black hole, did it happen? no.
Face it, its next thing thats going to happen is in a couple hundren years time when the sun gives up the ghost

Earth wasn't around 65 billion years ago - its only a few billion years old
And the last "Big thing" was the last ice age about 32 thousand years ago...
We live on a surprisingly dangerous planet...

.....where people get hollywood, dodgy websites and actual science mixed up sometimes... hehe :P

Yeah Hollywood has a LOT too answer for...
There are so many Disaster Films that seem "real"
2012 was quite impressive...
the neutrinos are heating up the Earths Core... ::)
Neutrinos are massless particles which react with nothing...
-
maybe it was million then? but anyway, ice age was pretty bad for half the world, humans still survived..

You could say that about every "major disaster" though

suppose, anyway, if im honest, i really don't care.

just 1 line
"believe no one untill the disaster is actually confirmed"

I know the world won't end in 2012, and I have a feeling about the same crap for a giant meteor, but I'm still thinking of how horrible it would be to be smashed by a shipwreck...

True :D
Which makes me wonder about Hollywood. I never heard of the 2012 apocalypse until after people watched it... Hollywood villifies everything. :-\

i believe that there is going to be an earthquake somewhere on the west coast of North America. The Cascade and San Andreas fault has been inactive for many years and are overdue for a big one. But its very slim it will happen tomorrow.
-
Well predictions say 19th-26th at the very latest.
-
I am disapponted, its the 22 and no quake...
On a more serious note, from what i've heard its complete and utter coblers, but i've only got the UK media at hand, not checked the US yet

Of course it is
You cannot predict Earthquakes...

i think 1 prediction would actually work..
There will be a chnace of another earthquake in the next billion years

You can predict earthquakes to a extent, Before a boundry gives in it gets the "gitters" and starts making lots of really small quakes in a short space of time, So you can tell theres going to be a quake, and you can tell its going to be soon, you just don't know how soon, and thats the real issue.

i have an app for the IPod Touch and it tells me where and when the earthquakes happen. I get notifications. Ive been getting them mostly on the West coast of California and a few in Alaska. I believe one will happen soon but not in the 19-26 time period.

With 20 minutes to go...
Oregon just had a Magnitude 4.4 Earthquake... (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/Quakes/usc0002bu7.php)
