Title: Google Sketch 8 models allowed in SSE?
Post by: Third Mate on February 12, 2011, 09:46:30
I started a freeware project for SSE using GS8, so far it looks very very good and no armature model. It's a trawler and it's about similar size of Stigma but bit bigger. I looked for the most realistic textures I could find. Started 3 weeks ago but forgot to post. So is is possible to put in in SSE? Or am would I have to save up to get 3D Max which It looks a lot more complicated than GS8.

You can't put nothing in SSE by your self

This can be put in Virtual Sailor 7.

Hehehe :D, i knew that but what I meant to say was can VSTEP put his model made in GS8 in SSE?

This can be put in Virtual Sailor 7.

That's sweet news, the only thing is I don't know how to code it for physics and dynamics. Make the propeller spin, sounds, lights, and the rest of it  ??? ???

I too have make ships GS8, but I do not know how to make lights, boat.cfg files ;D

Third Mate, I hope you're not speaking about the very simple and amateur model you've posted in the other thrad into the model dev forum, which is not even yours anyway. A model that suits a commercial product quality standard needs much more than that, even if it is not sold. And anyway, in that case you can't put it in SSE yourself (only VSTEP can so far) and VSTEP still don't allow a third part developper to release an addon boat on his own (freeware or payware).

As for SketchUp beein "allowed" for modeling ships to be put into SSE, if you read again the rules or introducing post of the now ended CCC, you will see VSTEP do mention SketchUp as a possible tool for that. Several SketchUp models have been selected for the final poll as well (TFM's ones for instance) so that question is rather useless and you should have been able to work that out by simply reading the forum.

Another thing to consider is the SEA LADY trawler that has obtained a special mention for the CCC has been made WITH SketchUp.
Of course some features of some 3D programs are more appropriate than other ones and can be a big plus, but most of the time, it is not the software itself that does a good or suitable model, it is the modeler.

And if you've never really touched a 3D software before, you simply cannot hope to have your first model included into a commercial product. Unless, you're a true "genius" (I know 2 exceptions though), you can't do that, you need a more or less long (or short, depending on your ability) practice period for that.
Of course you can still put it yourself in VS or VSF as already pointed out, but in all cases, practice is much needed for obtaining a "professional" result (vs amateur to repeat your own word).

So in short, be honest, don't use someone else' model without immediately telling so... and practice. The result will only depend on you.

Oh of course not, this time I am making one of my own. But I did talk to the original creator of the model I am making If I can make something similar but not 100% exact. So what I mean by that is I asked him how he did some things to guide me through my model. And yes, until now I have not realized how much work it is, so I am not in a rush to finish, gonna gather some materials etc. but one stage that I cannot get past is coding it to make the propeller spin, sounds, and all that. At the momment I spend about 1 hour a day doing a small fragment of the boat and see how things turn out.

Can you show a picture of your creation?

And can you prove this?

Yeah, well both models do look similar but mine has a difrent name, paintjob, diffrent or more objects. Mine is based on 1900's. I have a fullly modled inside cabin and it's almost finished. Mine is based on a American side with the colours but the other model had it's focus Netherlands look. I mean you even see the same Container ships the same body almost just diffrent paintjobs

Third Mate, that's the 2nd time in 2 or 3 days you cheat about a model you pretend to have made yourself., in spite of what has already been pointed out to you here.
Most of the parts (and by far, actually nearly almost all) of the models you show us is from the above one linked by Joey1.
That is call cheating, that is of no interest to tell the contrary and present that as your own work in a forum and that is just plain dishonest.

After these two consecutive attemps of cheating, I hope you're no longer able to look at yourself in a mirror without feeling a big shame.

To remain polite, I'd say you, with that attitude, deserve 0% of respect. Poor person.

Good catch Joey  ;D

3rd, you've been around long enough to know it's not possible to add your own ships without help from VSTEP. Besides that, i strongly suggest that you stop posting other people's work  ;)
