Title: Update 1.3: No radar sweeping animation?
Post by: Figadas on January 07, 2011, 18:35:24
Hello all,

Is it just me or the team took off the green sweeping line animation from the radar? It may seems like a no big deal but I really miss the animation cause it was one great way to tell that the radar was working properly and not frozen.

Does anyone know a workaround for that or is the team planning to bring the animation back?

my best regards

Hi Figadas,

This animation has been removed by purpose :

1. for realism reasons, because modern radars don't show any sweeping line,
2. for performance reasons, because now the radar displays are visible on the bridges too. Having this unnecessary and unrealistic animation on the several radar screens would have had a big impact on framerate.

I don't think it'll be brought back in the future.

Hello all,

Thanks a lot for your reply, Denis.. yeah I was guessing that could have something to do that now we have sometimes 3 radars being displayed at once + 1 or 2 navigation maps, and I'm pretty that all those load the system a lot.

It's ok, like I said It's just that I used to watch the sweeping line to make sure that the radar was working properly.

Thanks again for your reply and for the hard work!

my best regards
