Hi all,
Some very unfortunate news here from Fleetwood...
http://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/blackpoolnews/Shock-in-port-as-140.6648755.jp
Looks like unless another company moves in, the Port of Fleetwood is history. Turns out that Stena have also bought into Heysham.

Stena Line have brought the Belfast routes from DFDS... the Lagan Viking is being repainted again ::)
But bad news for Fleetwood :(
-
The Leader left the route on the 17th :'(...she's been replaced by the Seafarer for the morning sailing.
The route closes on the 24th* (According to the Stena Site, but will try and confirm this when I go down to the Stena office on Tuesday).

Hi Jack
As you know I hhave lived here all my life its no surprize you can not exspect
company's to support a town that will not support its self.
If they will not keep the channel clear for shipping they will go elsewhere.
When I was a boy there were 2 bucket dredgers 24/7 keeping the channel clear
there were clipper's from all over the world tie up were you see stena leader berth
The Mona's Isle and other isle of man ferrys berthed for people coming off the trains
from the station that no longer exists.
I have watched this towns 200 deep sea trawlers go down to none since 1981 when
I had to find work abroad because there was no work here.
Fleetwood is now just a marina for pleasure craft the day's of it being a working port are at
an end sadly.

Hi Eric,
I suppose it had to come eventually...particularly the way thing are now. When I was doing my experience in June, sometimes the ships were hardly full, as a lot of the haulage companies had since gone bust.
There is some talk of possibly using Fleetwood as a base for the Wind Farm vessels, but as to whether or not that'll materialise is another thing. However, it sounds as though something is in the pipe line, as Stena have a deadline for when all the yards have to be cleared, so it sounds to me as something is going on, unless ABP are being awkward because Stena have pulled out.
Jack.
p.s. The last sailing is on Friday at 9 in the morning.

(Probably) The last ferry has just left Fleetwood, escorted by the lifeboat...got it all on camera, and will upload it to youtube ASAP for you all..
A large number of people and press turned out to watch her go out, and she blew her horn all the way out to the end of the fairway...
A very sad day for Fleetwood
Jack.
p.s. Video has finished uploading! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uf30MvcL6g
