Title: Ship Sim Extremes downloadable version
Post by: Sea Wolf on November 14, 2010, 17:25:15: I noticed that the price for the downloadable version of Ship Sim Extremes on the shipsim website costs $51.99 amazon has it for $19.99. What's the difference?

When I asked Vstep about it a while ago, they were a bit surprised, since considering what it costs to buy and resell, amazon couldn't ever be making a profit with that price. This is way below the recommended retail price.

Why they do it? No idea... :-\

If I buy a product and sell it to you, new, for much less, then the original manufactorer isn't ripping anyone off. I'm just diving under their price, and that costs me profit, or might even mean I make a loss.

Obviously as time goes by the price of 'stuff' also gets lower.. but this here is a bit much. Maybe a number of total purchases/transactions to get a position in the 'biggest sellers online' record list is more important than immediate profit, to some online shops and such. I don't know...

Could be a number of reasons, but the initial intention of the normal retail price isn't to rip people off, at least. ;)

Amazon does not stock everything they sell, but front other vendors. I buy quite a bit of photographic and computer stuff through Amazon because I can do it with a single click of the mouse, but the stuff actually comes directly from the big NY photographic vendors, and Gateway, Epson, etc. The price from Amazon is the same as advertised direct from those houses, sometimes even less.
