Post by: PatDec on October 03, 2010, 12:15:53
Is there a possibility to play with the Titanic? It was in the 2008 version but its not in the extreme version now :(

Hmm, about that opinion we had several discussions here. My opinion: the "Titanic" doesn't fit to a present simulator. Beside that, you should use a fleet of tugs to handle her in every harbour. But I can imagine a real historic steam ship simulator as a stand alone game with "Titanic", tugs and suitable, old harbour sites around. ::)

Well maybe the Titanic will fit a modern simulator sooner or later. As you may know there are plans to rebuild the ship exactly like the original one. Also the movie from 97 by James Cameron will be back in cinemas, this time in 3D. Seems to be alot going on for Titanic fans ;)

Titanic should be in the Shipyard in a few months, I hear.

And Subwolf, that re-release of the film is good for fans of that movie, but not for fans of the original ship. It was bad enough sorting out fact from fiction for large crowds when it hit theaters in 1997. One wave of gullible people is bad enough.

I don´t need to play it, when there is no titanic. All the other ships are boring and ugly.

You could always familiarize yourself with the game for some months until Titanic returns. That's what I'm doing.

Hi
I think Titanic fits in a modern simulator. Today, there are a lot of old type ships. There are sailing ships which are served by modern tugs in harbours. There are also many steam ships in some harbours (as Furie in Rotterdam). Perhaps some company will construct a new Titanic.

That's subjective ... To my mind, In Ship Sim 2008, Titanic was the only boring ship (and the only one I never sailed), as you can't do any manoeuver by your own with her ;)

I almost always sailed the ship, partly because she had enough walk-around space for you not to get bored during long stretches of a voyage :P

We might be opposites, Denis, because without her, I tend to find SSE dull within a few weeks of each new patch release.

Trying to maneuver the Titanic was fun because it was challenging.  It's hard to try and turn into one of the piers in New York without the assistance of tugs, but it's very doable and you get a great sense of accomplishment when you finally get it right.  Much more impressive then when you have azipods/thrusters.

I know, it's a shame she isn't there. However, I'm sure the delay is to make sure the model is the best it can be. In that sense, I can wait. Besides, I'm going to be busy worrying about my CCC entry until January. =D
