I don't know if anyone noticed this, but you can also create several profiles for different types of ships..
You can save a setup for azipod ships in a Profile, another setup profile for large "normal" ships, another for fast boats, etc.. This way you don't have to change your controls-setup everytime you change ship..
You just need to choose that Profile at the start of the game.. :)

It must have been an aah (attempt at humour)
If it's in the manual, it's not a Tip or Trick.. ;)

Therein lies lifes biggest tip or trick... If all else fails- read the manual

That is if you are so lucky to have one.
It's not quite handy to stop your mission, exit the game just to read the electronic manual.
Because the game came out in differant languages, the publisher decided only to include a printed manual in the English version of the Game.
Me, living in Holland is one of the people who bought the Pre-Ordered boxed version of the game and got the Dutch version. I can read English, but only got the Electronic Manual, in form of a pdf file.
Knowing the costs of printer ink those days it's quite expensive to print out the manual (36 pages). And if you will end with a readable print-out You have to print it full size, meaning A4 format.

Deleted. Oi, mad F... Why can't I delete my ill thought out comments?

I printed out my manual...just for situations like that...so if I get into a pickle, I can pause the game, and do a quick check and then proceed. If you don't print out the extras in the back of the manual, it doesn't chew up too many pages...I think I got mine done in 12 pages or so...if I was a bit more clever, I could have done it in half of that, but I've never had any luck dual-side printing and keeping the pages in order

Here is a tip !:)
Lower the print quality on your printer when printing things like manuals to save ink.

I tried that too, off course, but that made the readability much worse
