VSTEP really tried hard to make things miserable for players.
I was in one of the Agile Solution missions. After mooring her I could hear those silly crash sounds all the time as she touched the pier, and in about a minute or so she sank. Simply ridiculous.
We didn't have this "problem" in SS08 when ships are moored, the damage model in SSE must be done better or simply removed from the game. Think I'm going to throw the game away until it's finished in a patch.

::)
Oh dear, come on. Behave! As if they'd screw something up on purpose.
-
True, only Microsoft has the everlasting urge to make our lifes very miserable!
The problem is known at the dev's department. Hopefully it get's fixed. Appearantly people forgot the the first versions of SS06 and SS08. After every update the game became better and better. By the time we had version 1.4.2 of SS08 it took a huge leap forward with improvements.
-
Well perhaps instead of making new versions every year or so, they could try and develop the existing one.
I don't know what goes on behind the scenes and there are differing opinions of what is and isn't complex operations, but all I know is the end result is not quite what was expected.
-
Another reason why we have all been badly let down. Maybe VStep should refuind everyone, withdraw SSE and re-release it in about ten years time?
-
cant u turn damage off or shall i not buy the game because i dont want to sink every time i port

Nope, and the damage is... too sensitive
-
now there is no need to be enraged. it will take time to fix but this game will end up being amazing. the interesting thing is i am slightly under specs but my game runs almost perfectly. they tried to make the damage realistic. just in real life they have those uhh giant balls to keep the ship from hittin the dock. but in time it will get better. just have faith. its important.

Behave.. :D
I love the quality of some ships, and the water. But as I play I get more and more frustrated about all the things not working as expected.
But I just have to laugh...in the Agile Solution mission out of San Francisco I moored the pilotboat to the ship. So far so good, but then the pilotboat slammed into the Agile and sank. It went in circles under water, came back up dancing some tango before it became airborne and took off like a rocket. I don't know where it ended up.
Those testers should be fired, if there are any ;)

It is far better for a developer to do one or two improvements/new additions and stick a new title on it and release it, brings in more income/profit than if it was a new patch/service pack/addon. It's not just VSTEP, every developers does it one way or another, its how they make their income!
My advice to you would be to switch back to SS08, wait for a couple of patches to be launched and then maybe consider going back to SSE depending on how other users in the forum say. That's what i'm doing, and loving every bit of it, SS08 really is a treat now it's patched and to be perfectly honest does the exact same as SSE, yeah I may not have the coast guard frigate in game, but I can still use nearly every other ship that is in SSE, Vermaas/VLCC/Pride of Rotterdam/Ocean Star(Named Orient Star in SSE) on SS08.
Plus SS08 looks very professional with its user interface, while SSE is a bit of a mess.
That's just my opinion,

Its really impossibly hard to believe that in the beta testing stages before release, simple and very obvious issues like this are not caught. Its about time companies stopped releasing software with such serious issues and make customers wait on a fix.
I also do not understand why all the great improvements cannot go forward in a sequel. Why do they have to start from the beginning every time?
Now I'm not totally trashing the sim.I do enjoy it but I just returned to port in the Rainbow Warrior 3 and as I was getting ready to moor the boat I barely scratched the dock and I start listing to starboard and sink. ::)

Yeah we can deal with the other bugs for a few weeks, but this one makes the game unplayable in my opinion. They should release a patch as soon as possible to fix this issue, whats a ship simulator if you can't even moor a ship without sinking it?
-
In my view there are too many errors to make the game enjoyable or playable.
I just had a disaster with a pilot boat that collected the pilot and then decided to dive.
Earlier I tried to dock in Calais, but the water is barely 2 metres deep on approach, with no channels.
Most missions cannot be completed.
VSTEP have made a big mistake launching this software. I've tried to contact them for a refund, but they're not replying.
-
I spent over an hour doing one of the missions (I took the wrong turn >:() After doing all the tasks I returned to port and just nudged the edge a very tight squeeze for a big boat and it sank instantly and I couldn't complete the mission. I'm not doing any more missions at the moment until they get this fixed.

i did that on the rainbow warrior mission when i returned to the pier i sunk but i still tyed up and completed the mission under water ;D

I tried to do that but the ship started to glitch around in circles and it went mad. I deployed a lifeboat to try and move it over to the pier but that didn't work.

Not true, Do you mean Apple ??? ;)

That's what I meant by the freaky rubber band physics. That usually helps in the sinking of my ships when towing or mooring up.

Yeah it's bad. But don't forget to save your game before mooring. At least you don't have to do the mission all over again.

I agree with this thread. It looks like no one could have beta-tested any of the missions. I have been playing the tourist campaign and sunk so many times. Mooring in Southampton is funny when the cruiseliner is to deep to even moore at the designated pier. (Yes, you can moor far out, but how realistic is that - and how many does not sink their ship when just following the directions?)
The speedboad sunk directly the three first times i started mission 1, when moored before I had time to cast away and start the engines. Thats...nice.
Same happens in the mission at Bora Bora when you captain the coast guard ship. It is moored at to shallow spot upon mission start so you have to be lucky to get away from the dock without sinking the ship.
It is really is too many bugs for a release. We paid money for this you know...

A ship should not sink when touching a pier. In the real world touching a pier only gives a dent in the hull. I a ship hits the pier very hard, it should still not sink, because of the watertight bulkheads inside the hull with the watertight doors closed when mooring.

Vilding, as someone who was involved in testing 08 prior to release, I can assure you that sse has been beta tested many times by people (not me!) for many hours, as was 08.
Whether the developers act upon reports or not is a different issue. Personally I can't see how products can be legitemately released long before they are ready. I wish my company could get away with doing things like that.
Still, 08 was nearly finished, so maybe sse will be too. It would be nice if they got one version working before starting the next one...
-
I believe that, it would be pretty stupid to release software without testing. Question is, how could things like that bad damage system pass?
Btw, the easy sinking only seems to happen when ships are moored, not when colliding with each other. I rammed the Agile Solution several times using the Bugsier 2 but they just wouldn't sink, so I gave up ;D
-
Subwolf, you know very well it has been tested! I myself assisted in b.t. 2008 version, so I can tell you that sse (which I have had nothing to do with (apart from campaigning for DCITSE!!!)) WILL have been extensively tested.
My own opinion, which isn't based on any known facts but merely the fact that I'm brilliant in about every way, is that the beta testers identified lots of bugs, the developers tried to remove as many as possible, but ran out of time and released anyway.
I personally agree that they should never have been pressurised into an un-realistic release date. Vstep is now (or should be) sufficiently experienced to gauge timescales!
-
the people who tested it must hav bin playing computers since they were 4 :2thumbs: because they havent noticed the damage they r well expiriensed

there is a channel if you turn to starboard and go along the coast for a few miles. it will bring you in almost at 90 degrees to the entrance. it is a good test of skill. I also ran aground here but then saw the channel on the next attempt. It is true the damage control needs a major overhaul. Apart from that it is not too bad. Altough some working gauges and rudder indicators in the bridge would help.

It seems that there are divided opinions as to the level of playability of SSE.
I can only conclude that there are different versions of SSE being published, OR that the programming is severely affected by other third-party software that resides in each PC.
My experience is that SSE is totally unplayable due to many serious issues - I've not yet managed to complete a mission, and I'm an experienced ShipSimmer.
Recently I had a pilot boat that sailed under the water - it sounds funny, but it's just the latest of a long series of issues.
I've uninstalled SSE and gone back to ShipSim 2008
