Hi Will,
With this PC, Shim Sim Extremes should run perfectly well :2thumbs:
-
im no pc expert, but from what i can see it should have no problems at all. if someone more techy could back me up though it would be more help :2thumbs:
P.S: Nice spec's, wish mine were more like yours ::)
hope you enjoy SSE
EDIT: Denis beat me to it

Thanks for the reply, i bought it yesterday and changed the i7 processor to a i5 as the i7 it came with was only a 2.8ghz processor and the i5 was 3.6ghz. Dont know if i did the right thing or not?
-
Yeah, you can't beat me : I'm Dr Evil, mouahahahahahhah .
-
if the i7 came with the 2.8ghz and i5 with 3.6ghz im sure it was the right thing to do
-
I hope so but the i7 was 8MB and i5 is only 4MB but as ime not a techy guy ime not really sure what it means. All i know is that the one i have gone for is a higher power processor.
-
i7 has 4 cores (8 "cores" with hyperthreading turned on), i5 has 2 cores and no hyperthreading, so overall it says it all, i7 is a better processor. But thanks to your higher core-clock I guess these processors are almost as good as each other in games, i7 probably slightly better but more expensive, fair enough...
-
Simple answer: yes, it will ;)
-
I had to pay £80 extra for the i5 as it was 3.6ghz.
-
That's sad, sorry to say this, but then you've got bamboozled. PC shops shouldn't take advantage of ignorance, but unfortunately it's an easy way to earn money :(. But still you have a good PC, and you should get very good gaming performance anyway.
-
Its a Dell XPS so i did it all online, i didnt think dell would rip you off but obviously they have. O well at least the PC will be capable of playing extremes very well.

Hi will19984713,
You've not been bamboozlded at all, the I5 680 is the latest Intel cpu generation, and costs actually more money than an older i7@2.8ghz.
It is actually a 2 core CPU, but it has hypertreading capacities.
It's an excellent CPU, and will probably performs (much?) better than an i7@2.8ghz....
All the i5 cpu don't have the same architecture,
some are dual cores, some are quad cores,
some have hyperthreadring, some don't...
Here's a brief description of the i5s : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_i5
That's an excellent choice anyway !

Thanks for that, ime glad someone has backed up my choice. The reason i did it is because the ship sim extremes operating requirements are 2.8ghz or 3.0ghz processor so i thought i better get something slightly more powerful but i dont have a great deal of technical knowledge about pc's. Ive got a dell diemsnion that i played ship sim 08 on but it struggled and was jerky.
