Hi guys, first post and I need help :(
I am installing the DVD version of Ship Simulator Extremes (which has been hi-jacked by Steam) but I don't mind,I am an avid Steam user.
However AVG is reporting a virus detected in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ship simulator extremes\3rd\SentinelKeyW.dll.
Threat found is Win32/Heur.
I have sent a support request but it may not get answered until after the weekend and I want to play it now!
I am hoping it's a mistake by AVG but I don't want to continue with the installation.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Chuckster.

The team would be more than happy to help you out
But first of all, as a sort of rule.
Do you mind registering your SSE license key in your forum profile?
The license key will be found on the back of your manual.
Go to profile and scroll to the bottom.
Once you have done that you can recieve technical support

Thanks Matthew,I have done that now.
The installation completed whilst I was looking up the threat on Google.
I am now re-running a complete scan to see what happens.
*Update* A subsequent full scan by AVG revealed nothing, even though the suspect file is still there.Strange.

AVG has had problems with previous Ship Simulator editions, so it's not unheard of.

With AVG the "/heur" being attached generally means the scanner didnt find "malware" specifically but that the heuristics of the antivirus program is reporting it as "potentially unwanted". some of these libraries and the like used by games and various programs can be detected as "potentially unwanted" due to the fact that similar files can be associated with viruses/trojans and so on. Have you tried sending an email to AVG asking weather or not it may be a false positive? also avg has some steps you can follow here if you suspect a false positive, that can help you determine weather it is or not http://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-free-forum?sec=thread&act=show&id=395 (http://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-free-forum?sec=thread&act=show&id=395)

I know you have AVG, but try this one time Kapsersky scanner.
It's quite effective and scans the "virus" folder online

I'm pretty sure it's safe though :)

Blackhawks, that was some great info you gave me.I up-loaded the suspect file and it came up clean on both the Jotti's Virusscan and VirusTotal web-sites.
Looks like it is harmless after all.I will send it to AVG as a false positive.
Many, many thanks for your help guys, and so quick too

Not Kapsersky
i got it on my laptop and it rubbish
is makes the laptop slow and it hard to find out what has happen to the Virus so ilk recommend Norton but not 360

I would suggest Avast. Several reasons for that :
1. efficient against malwares,
2. doesn't slow computers too much,
3. FREE for personnal use.
4. Never had any interaction problem with other software (sse for example).
Oh, and moreover, I've really never liked norton things.

Or Avira Free, I am using it for more than 2 years now, and no problems at all! Not even with SSE.

Had this reply fron the AVG team..
Unfortunately, the previous virus database might have detected the mentioned virus on some legitimate applications. We can confirm that it was a false alarm. We have immediately released a new virus update that removes the false positive detection on this file. Please update your AVG and check your files again.
All is well (apart from the 'All I see is sea' problem) >:(
