For me, it's Das Boot. One of the best submarine films I have ever seen.
My other favourite is The Hunt for Red October.
-
Red October, but probably only because of my hero Mr Connery.
-
I've only seen one good submarine film: Das Boot.. I find other films very "americanized"
( I am curious about "Above us the waves" :)

I like both... ::)
From WW2 too the nuclear subs....deserves a vote for me

Das boot! ;D

I think it's funny how in sub-movies when there is a severe depth bomb attack, the only thing shaking is the camera.. :D
-
EH?
Who dares too think that? ::)
Not only the cam also the sub model used in the movie
-
In "Das Boot" those kind of scenes look very realistic.. :)
-
I don't think I have seen another movie that made me feel so much 'part of the experience' as 'Das Boot' does.
'Hunt for Red October' is a great movie. But it's not thát much about the submariners and life on board, specialy in time of war.. But very good nonetheless.
For all it's flaws, 'U-571' was pretty entertaining.. though far fetched here and there. ::)
Another one I recently watched again is 'Below', which is a good one too. But due to it's genre, not too realistic. ;D
I liked 'Crimson Tide' a lot aswell. But again, not as much about 'heartship in wartime' as Das Boot, for example. And most of these 'modern sub' movies do not show an accurate submarine interior, I think. The lighting is all wrong too if you ask me. Not that I am an expert, but they also seem to have a LOT of unused space to spare in those movies sometimes.. ::)
-
U-571 was so historicaly wrong.. The British were quite miffed how it was "Americanized" :)

If you want to make a movie that needs US military hardware, like subs, ships, planes etc..
the US military get a big say in the script..(and they like to make the military look good)..
-
U-571 was so historicaly wrong.. :)
Yeah, it was about as factual as that film about that one ship.. that James Cameron made... ::) :-X
-
I would love to see a submarine movie from Bollywood... ;D
-
Now there's a thought.. ;D
