I thinks it's too bad so many people need to invent such strange names, while so many good names are held hostage by members who haven't been active for years..
Look at the members list, so many with 0 posts.. They could be long gone..
I suggest: anyone who hasn't been active in two months (or whatever) loses their name.. Just a thought..

Hoy Saltydog,
I think that would be very difficult to do.
That member has registrated himself with that name at the time, and maybe registered his licencecode.
What would be helpfull maybe, is that the memberslist instead of an alphabetic order, would be changed in 2 parts.
On top,all the members which are active, also alphabetic
than the members which are not,or even never posted something, also alphabetic.
Than you can see very good, who is active and who not.
Regards
Marc

I think that's a good idea Marc..
I realize it's a difficult thing to do, it just seems like such a waste to see good names frozen, while new members search for a good name..

HI

Fortunately we have unique names, (without additional numbers)
Imagine calling yourself TJK732..

Complaining about the namewasters is like complaining about the weather. If you compare it to Youtube where people with "classic" names not just haven't uploaded/faved any videos but haven't logged it for 4 - 5 years, then here it's just the very beginning of beginning of a "problem". People take "classic" names when the forum/site is very young & there's no need to be creative at names. And if the desired name is already taken long years ago by a namewaster, then where you were before at that time? ;D
Agreed with Marc about the registering thing. However, there're a lot of those who even never been online & even more likely never registered the keys. It's like you're registering here out of boredom or interest like "maybe there will be free keys/ships/whatever..." & then "Ahh never mind. I'll come there later." So the member not just forgots it's password/username but also that he ever registered here.
So for those who never logged in here I think SD suggestion will be Ok. I doubt the one who have never been here after registering in, say, 2006, remembers this place on one sunny day.

I like how the name-cheating progresses on Youtube. Just count how many HellsBells accounts there are!

Try joining in, in a more simpler topic, as this one has humour..

Well whoever it is has forgotten that it is against the rules to hold multiple accounts.
Unless Jack has begun to collect groupies...

Don't be daft. Once I saw that "1rishjack" on the index page, I went to memberslist - "Maybe there're are even more Jacks which are Irish?" - so found the second one & posted here. Whole thing took me less than 1 minute.

It was a joke...

That's what the emoticons are for, McG.. :D
