I’m in mode to buy a new monitor and my problem at the moment is, if I shall choose wide screen or not. At the moment and don’t know any advantage too choose a wide screen. The monitor won’t be used to watch movies on.
What advantage is it to choose a wide screen monitor?

It is wider and you can see more on it :O
Apart from waching dvds, ive found not a lot. windows recogises the shape and you can use the extra space- useful.
but some programmes do not and just get stretches/distorted

I just bought one, a LG, a 22" with a resolution of 1680x1050.
Especially for sim games, that's really, really nice. For Flight Simulator and Ship Sim, that's wonderful : the wide screen format fit the human sight, and I find it really far mor immersive.
I would not switch back to a 4/3 for anything !!

How do you find the various programmes for displaying the correct proportions on the screen? When I used MSFS (older version admittedly) it distorted the screen quite a bit.

I didn't find it was distorded ... Except for the 2D panels, but if you use virtual cokpits, that's wonderful.
Off course for that it's better to use good addons, such as LEVEL-D 767 ... But with the wide screen, I now only use virtual cockpit without beeing bothered : I just LOVE it !
