Title: ShipSim Extremes 2010
Post by: Osprey on May 03, 2010, 02:47:27
The screen shots show a great ocean - great waves, light etc.

My questions are not related to appearance, but function.

Will there be wind, tide, or current effects upon ships?

I think it will, but I'm not shure.

I don't know.  But what I do know is that developers, beta-testers & close related to VSTEP forum members maybe know, but they won't tell us what they know anyway.

I don't think so, to keep a difference between the pro version and 'our' version. Wouldnt make sense for a nautical college to buy the pro version if you can do the same with the game version right?  ;D

After 24 hours there has only been speculation regarding whether extremes will have ships affected by wind, tide, and/or current.

I wonder if Marketing looks in here?

I will be purchasing Extremes pretty well no matter what, but it would be good to hear on this matter.

I'm pretty sure we hear more details about SSE once the new website is launched which could be any day now  :)

The game still says "simulator" in the title, things like wind, tides and currents really should be in there this time along with much improved night lighting, in reality buoys can be seen at tens of miles distance at night In previous versions of SS they are bearly visible until you are right on top of them. These really are core requirements for anything calling itself a "ship simulator".

The differences between "our" version and the pro version should really be limited to things like... instructor network guidance, post mission analysis tools, ship physics configuration, multi station operation and the simulations of specific real world maritime hardware not the basic requirements like bouyage, traffic, wind, current tides etc.

I hope this doesn't sound too negative it's just that we are not really hearing any information on these core things. Vstep should however be commended on it's inclusion of more task based ships, ships with specific roles and duties providing more for the player to do rather than simply adding another 5 ferries etc.

But the new ships that they were adding in SS Extremes 2010, would they also be available for SS08 maybe up to a month after the release of SS10? There is at least one ship that i like (Greenpeace vessel) but i prefer any medium-size ships, if any.

I can't see that happening. If the SSE ships are available to buy for SS08, then it could take sales away. After SSE is released I can't see much more happening with SS08.

Thanks Nathan, i think i was aware of that deep in my mind. That's why i'm hoping that when SS Extremes 2010 is released, its requirements don't exceed that of SS08. It might be impossible, but i'm just hoping.

Hi All
Extremes will be a completely new sim so you will not have any of the vessels available
for 2008 as 2006 moved to 2008 so extremes moves on different dynamic's/ocean/enviroments
in other words it involves changing everything as in all game's/sims it has moved on.
We can only wait till v-step give us more news on things to come  ::)
