Well what do you think?
I think it would greatly simplify global trade if we all used the same money and spoke the same language. Maybe use English because it is already a global language and the Euro or US Dollar because they are both wide spread and powerfull
Not trying to offend anyone just curious. :)

Ask the people who use the Euro how much fun that is right now. If one country goes down the tube, it can drag everyone with it.
-
True very true.
-
But do you think all these countries are going to give up their languages? Of course not. So that's not going to work either.

Not just one country. After Greece, Portugal will be knocking on the EU's door. Who's next? Fair chance that Spain, Italy and Ireland also need help...
-
One currency can only ever work with one government, when one country has to set its financial policies based on the needs of other countries there will always be problems.
-
Due to one thing and another in Europe, in the Republic of Ireland where they use Euros, everything is rather expensive to people who use Euros and people who use Sterling.
What is becoming the case is that people close to the border of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, are coming into Northern Ireland to the border towns and spending Euros/converted Euros to Sterling in our shops and what not because it is cheaper. Doesn't exactly help their economy but its certainly boosting ours ;D
Since all this credit crunch nonsence started...2 of our border stores in Newry (on the southern border) and Foyleside (on the north western border) sale have shot up over the past 2 years by about 128% if memory serves. Both stores taking in excess of £150'000 a week, with the majority being cross border trade. Just an example.
If it was unified currency, then if the US sneezed the whole world would feel it, and on those grounds I think thats why the UK has never adopted the Euro as of yet.
Interestingly enough...
Northern Ireland bank notes are not accepted in mainland England, yet its still pounds sterling and part of the UK. Scottish and English notes are accepted here. ???

In theory NI bank notes should be OK in mainland UK, but in practice they are very reluctant to take them, I know i had an awful time shifting all of those Northern Bank £50 notes a few years back :D.
As Carlsberg would say, "The IRA don't do bank robberies, but if they did they would probably be the best bank robberies in the World!"

Let's just start with getting the English to drive on the right side of the road.. ;D

There isn't many places that do it, so its sort of like languages and currency, its Britain, lets keep it that way!

Its always nice to the french/dutch coming off the ferries at Belfast and driving towards us

I really appriciate the signs at the pedestrian cross over which says "look left" and "look right". It saved me quiet a few times in Londen...

London is an awful place...they mow you over if you're half way accross the road and the lights turn green! Never again...

Sounds like you had nightmares after that?

I know, it's beyond horrible! ;D Even in Amsterdam the cars stop for pedestrians, even if they are 'illegal' crossing
-
My way of crossing a street is normaly to just run ;D
-
Mine is to find the largest truck possible, wait till it is just about to pass, then walk in front of it.
Needless to say, it's highly dangerous and should never be attempted at home.
It's funny, it's not illegal to cross roads here at any time, red man, green man, dual carriageway (Not motorways though)

I won't try that I don't think...

Not everything is bad. It has many advantages, off course
