Title: I'm back! AND: My Dad's boat: The Sulac. A 1978 Moody 30
Post by: jammydodger on April 01, 2010, 18:08:15
Hi all.
Would like to announce not only my "return" from the shadows, but also that I'm going to stay on my dad's boat from today until next Saturday. We hope to do plenty of sailing!  :captain:
Well, let me tell you a bit about her.
She's a 1978 Moody 30ft, called the Sulac.
She sleeps 4 (although 1, 2 or 3 is best)    :sleepy:
Mini kitchen (little oven, fridge, sink)  ;D
Navman VHF
Navtex
Garmin GPS
Nice warm heating
Autopilot
Nice stereo system  ;)
Canned air horns
25 (I think) HP BETA Marine engine, that's only a few years old  ;D
She'll do up to 9 knots with engine + sails.  :o  :P
+ An awesome Skipper and an even more awesome first mate (guess who the first mate is!  )
I'll get some pictures and more info up later today or this week, but now I've gotta get ready to go!

Cheers, James  :captain:

They are captain's papers, they tell that I am a captain and not a theaf stealing a ship, just calling them self a captain.  ;D we both know I am not a theaf and all that.

OK, I'm back again, and I get 1.5 posts about the boat and the rest of 'em are about captain's papers.
Hopefully we're taking her out tomorrow so we'll get the camera blazing then.

Well, in Sweden it's called skepparintyg or förarintyg, it might tell you what the norwegian counterpart, equivalent is :)

Oh dear...
Can a mod clean this up, please?
Good news! We went out today.
But not in our boat!  :( The first time we can go sailing, the tide is only half what it needs to be for us. What joy! So instead, we went out on our friend's Princess 30 footer called Amber. It's much better all round than our old thing. Two Volvo Penta engines, which make a hell of a noise! They can go as fast as you like, AGAINST the current, even if it's very strong! We did over 8 knots directly against the current with little throttle, and then again, little throttle, 8 knots cutting directly across the current. She could probably get up to at least 15 knots. The wash is amazing! Dual engine displays an control. Lowrance fish finder. 2 Garmins (a GPS and a Navtex). Radio aerial. Satellite. A laptop and a computer. A TV. Radio speakers everywhere. Sleeps about 4. Nice, neat galley. And a brilliant, talented Skipper. Wish ours was as good as that!
We took loads of pictures and videos, especially of me at the helm, which was for a majority of the one hour journey we did. I will put them on here tomorrow. We are hoping to be able to go out in our heap tomorrow!  ;D

Cheers, James

P.S. Sorry for all these so far fruitless promises of pics/vids. There WILL be some, and plenty too, including Amber.
