Title: Non SS Related Computer Problem
Post by: Capt. Matt on February 21, 2010, 14:51:29
I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong board however when I start up my PC windows loads fine I click my username and it loads I see my desktop background but I dont see the start menu or taskbar for another few minutes. It used to be very quick starting up.

Thanks in advance,
Matt

Interesting problem there, i'd run a virus scan to see if you picked up a virus. There might be certain programs that start up with windows that are slowing it down. Other than that i'm not sure what is the issue.

wasn't this in small talk before? Seems a better place than this, since it has nothing to do with ss 06...

I had this problem a few years back, it turns out I had too many anti virus programs etc that were starting up when the computer was turned on. :)

Have you tried booting into safe mode?

I misread what you said. Matt, have you kept a log of what executable files run on startup?
It also might help to check out what's inside
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Currentversion/Run
See if anything is out of the ordinary there. If you don't find anything, try a system restore.

Personally I'd say there is too much starting up with windows causing it to be slow

Check any boot logs you have, Matt. One of the things I dislike about windows is all of the processes starting up, you don't see what's happening, it's all covered by that damned loading bar. I guess that's what logs are for though.
