Hi captb,

That's actually a pretty well known fact, indeed. Not wanting to burst your bubble, but it IS a real vessel, not even based off, it's got a real life counterpart.

Many ships in the game are real vessels.

And that's not the only one from Fairmount either, the Sherpa..., she has a load of sisters that are all pretty much the same, like the Summit, the Alpine, the Glacier, and Expedition.

Here's their own site: http://www.fairmount.nl/page.php?idObject=369

Thanks for sharing though!!!

Kind Regards,
Fred

There is also a ship called Pride of Rotterdam... I don't think it is a real ship though, but based on one called the 'Pride of Hull'  ;)

EDIT: One recommendation for anyone who has not seen that youtube film... Try it with the sound turned off! (sorry CaptB)

There are also some young members who claim that Titanic was a real ship. They usually have “Titanic” in their names; so they have a vested interest in perpetuating that myth.

Titan..i...c...? :sleepy:

I HOPE it's real... It is my cure for insomnia, Marty.  :D

Pride of Rotterdam isn't based off of the Pride of Hull. PoR and PoH are both real life ships, twins you could say.

I must say that when I woke up this morning & after playing with a some kind of a 4-funneled ship in Ship Simulator, I went to Google & just out of boredom typed "Titanic" (I think that's the right word)...  I can't express the thing how I was surprised when I found out that there was a ship with the same name & which was totally based off that ship from SS I played this morning!  :o

Here are pictures of the Titanic, Fairmount Sherpa, and Pride of Rotterdam in real life, along with some other SS08 vessels in real life:

Most vessels, including Fairmount Sherpa, are real and others are based off real vessels, like Ocean Star to Carnival Legend.

When I first saw the name of this thread, I expected it to be something about FS crashing SS, written by a non English/American person  Shows ya what forums are like these days  ;D
Yes... There isn't really anything I can add to what's already been said...

The failure to see the sarcasm..

That is worrying... That is REALLY worrying. I don't think I could have been any more obviously sarcastic if I tried...

Poor old Firestar... I won't make *TOO* much fun out of him as I need his help later with a certain 3d modelling programme.

Does it give you any advantages over other members who haven't seen some of those ships?

WM has a habit of removing his posts to embarrass those who reply.
You should always quote his entire post when you reply.

Indeed, you care not a bit for the wishes or feelings of your fellow members.
But you will.

That's like asking him to post a picture of himself..the same day that happens is the same day Ballast eats his PC. ;D

Anyway, yes the Fairmount Sherpa exists, she's a nice ship too. Very big.

Not as big as a certain 4-funnelled, famous, pre-war liner.

Indeed it was, young JD. Only made one trip if I remember correctly....

Now what was it's name? Began with a T, I'm sure of it...
Title: Re: Fairmount sherpa exicts
Post by: jammydodger on February 28, 2010, 18:30:52
Nah, I think it actually began with Z... Or was it A? Or P... Or... Ummm... J?
I'm sure it made more than one trip... It was the one that went from San Fransisco to Wellington in a week, wasn't it?

No I think you will find the vessel in SS with 4 funnels is actually a myth, like the Ark...

Well, of course, my dear man, the fourth funnel was actually a ventilator, What, What!

Yeah, she is!

You'd think that she'd be powered by props, or even stern drives.

Unusual form of propulsion for a boat like that, normally they're dual prop
