Title: Turbosquid
Post by: purserone on February 07, 2010, 13:58:50
Hi All,

Now i know this is old hat and i am fairly new to ship simming and i came across Turbosquid site the other week and i kept putting it off asking about this on here , so anyway, first, what would i be looking for on their site for ships that will work in ship sim 08, is it 3dmax?  or whu, second, if i purchase a model can i install it in my version of the sim just for me to use,

I have seen a couple of ship models at reasonable prices but i can't find out if they would work ok.

            Thanks for any help.

            Roger.

Sorry Roger - AFAIK you cannot add ships to SS08.

Hello Patrick,

Thanks for the quick reply, at least it was worth asking!!

                 Cheers,

                 Roger.

No you are unable to add your own ships to the game. Having just the model is only half of the process as you still need to program everything like the physics, handling, sounds and so on.

Not to mention that half of Vstep's ships just happen to be on turbosquid...

McG, if they're on TS, then it's more than likely it's not VSTEP's ship, rather than VSTEP using someone elses' model.

Exactly. That or some... Unsavoury person is Taking apart the game, then uploading the ships to turbosquid...

Vstep bought the rights to use some of the 3d models...

But as someone above has said, that is only part of the task. They have to have dynamics and all sorts added.

Some people will claim that they can do xyz to get them in the game, but ultimately, only vstep have the tools to do so. There have recently been some AI vessels from the past which have been added into the game as playable models- but that is not the same as taking them from TS I'm afraid.

But none of the Turbosquid modellers get a mention?

If they have been paid, rather than donated or volunteered.

I'm sure vstep would have factored that into the deal.

Hi everyone,

I think all of the NH vessels that came from TS are by the same author.

He's been approached by Vstep, has edited his work in such a way that Vstep could use it, then Vstep went to work on them for their part of the 'making-it-fit-in-the-game' process.

The modeler is credited in the proper places, and I'm sure paid too, since these were not offered on TS for free, and I'm sure the extra work that was involved was worth something too.  ;D

Just cause you don't see it all on the forum - since not all those who contribute are active forum members - doesn't mean it's not there. On a professional level things are different, as long as such a professional modeler is paid, I don't think he cares that much about some kids on a forum singing his praise.  ;D

technicaly you could but you have to get them  in .CGR format and you would need speiel programs, so after all the work the earth would have ended. :D

http://www.slideshare.net/PjotrAtVSTEP/the-content-creation-workflow-of-the-ship-simulator-game

Perhaps this video by Pjotr explains more about the whys and wherefores of adding ships to the game.  This mostly relates to SS Pro, or "Nautis" as it is now entitled. The procedure is the same for the game as well though, a very complicated thing to get correct. The Dynamics set up is so complicated that if one is not fully conversant with the subject it is a bit of a no go area.
