Hello,
Have had SS08 for quite a while now, but haven't used it that much! I'm now using it again and sailing the VLCC Latitude. However, I'm having a few problems with the AI!
As a beginner, I'm just getting used to the VLCC, its sheer size and how to control it in and out of port. However, when I am sailing around other (smaller) ships - they seem to crash into me! For example, I was sailing out of Rotterdam when a small ship came straight at me, by this time it was impossible for me to turn. Instead of turning, it simply went straight into me, and I began to sink! Is there any way this can be avoided?
I have had a search on the forum, but most of the posts on this subject are from circa 2007.
I am using Version 1.42, If that helps.
Thanks,
Jonjo

Im a fairly new to Ship Sim myself and have had this happen once or twice too.
I dont think there is anything you can do in relation to the AI ships, just try and pilot yourself around them! Maybe try and practice with smaller/easier ships until you get the hang of the controls, then graduate to the VLCC's.
Personally the largest ship I like to use is the Pride of Rotterdam, for a big ship she is easy ish to control!
Maybe after a few more months of playing, ill be regularly piloting the VLCC's around!

Unfortunately, AI ships are more A than I... They only stop if you continually block their path and they have time to gently come to a halt.

but speed boat and water taxi they newer stop, beaver of that, that's my experience

Hi Jonjo,
The subject of autonomous ships (AI) has been discussed often on this forum. This recent topic is quite comprehensive:

To learn more about the way AI works, you can download the Mission Editor tutorial, and the Missions Manual, from here:

The best way to avoid problems with AI is to avoid the AI. Never assume that you are the stand-on vessel. In fact, since most problems with AI occur in harbors, you are usually under some local equivalent of US Inland Rules. Most large AI traffic has restricted maneuverability and a long stopping distance. You are the give-way vessel when crossing or entering a traffic lane from a side channel.
Because AI ships follow defined tracks, observation will allow you to predict where they will go.

I've had that its just a dodgey AI nothing to worry about
-
and how to create AI paths in ME????? they told me that i had to press insert, but it did nothing
-
Hi Greece,
You need to press the Insert key near the top of the keyboard, not the Ins key on the numeric keyboard.
This is an old topic and in the wrong place. You should ask questions about the Mission Editor on Development corner > Mission Creation.

Marty
