Title: On holiday
Post by: Stuart2007 on January 30, 2010, 17:07:31
Just to let you all know that I am now on holiday and won't be posting- so feel free to make as many pointless posts as you like without fear of a sarcastic response. You have WM coming back soon who will I am sure make up for it on my behalf.

Please keep the Marmite spirit alive and well (and out the hands of you know who) ;)

EDIT: Removed content.

I'll be back- just as soon as you've gone  ;D

Between now and June sort of time- I will be travelling probably a few thousand miles by ship... I will send reports. I will try not to mention to warm climates, chilled lager, dodgy souvenirs and bikini clad babes. I shall just stick to reports about rusty hulks of ships (no I'm not going to Piraeous) (SP)

See you! (In 5 mins when you realise you are completely and utterly addicted to all of our 'charming' personas!)
You're having a laugh there, McG :o

Tell us where you are going we will all turn up. ::)

I'm not constantly going to be travelling- just a few trips... Firstly at least one round trip on the Pride of Bilbao, then I'm going to try the Polferries from Gdansk to Stockholm, then Viking Line to Helsinki, then back, down to Gdansk (have 10 days in Poland) then up the coast to catch the Danish overnighter, work my way across land- or possibly head for Copenhegan and catch the ferry up to Bergen... From there, I have no idea... I shall find out when I get there.

Also, I MIGHT head south at some point to Gibraltar and catch the AT ferries service (from Spain) to One of the African ports...

That should be a fair few NMs... I hate flying and quite frankly would rather walk than get on a bus with wings... If OB Laden doesn't get you, then Ryanscare charges will.... and if you escape those charges by flying with a proper airline, then the noisy kids and airport queues probably will (at least with MY blood pressure it is a real danger) :o

If anyone has any other recommendations on where to travel to, please do tell...

EDIT: Recommendations for P&O are not requested... I will make an exception for one route and one route only between now and September. Other than that, no hull,  no rotterdam, no dover, no calais (not even when in the same environment)... No PO Irish sea... Err.. do po operate anywhere else? If so, then not there either.  :(

What ever happened to WM?
Title: Re: On holiday
Post by: Stuart2007 on January 30, 2010, 21:00:34
Yes TransEuropa have the old Pride of Free Enterprise/Bruges/Picardy...

A lovely old ship... I was on the last crossing ever. But lets not get into another "why do PO get rid of all my favourite ships"   >:( Still, given the age and size at least there was a reason- it genuinely was progress I'm afraid (unlike certain other withdrawals of late) :-X

I've never been to Rotterdam- or Harwich for that matter... Now there's an idea- thanks Nathan.

What ever happened to WM?
Abducted by aliens. With a bit of luck!

See you! (In 5 mins when you realise you are completely and utterly addicted to all of our 'charming' personas!)
Well, you did have a point- I'm not actually going til Monday, so you still have to put up with me for a while yet...

And thanks Capt. Best... Was that sarcasm?  ;)

Stuart do you not need to tell us who you are leaving incharge of your forum empire whilst you visit areas of Europe that your petty sure do not have internet access yet?  ???

What staff upgrades are going to take place? CEO, chairman, secretary etc in your prolonged absence?
Who will become the new administrative representative of the United Gamers Alliance Ship Sim Forum who will become the acting replacement as chairman?

All this to sort out before your holiday...
...anyway have a good one

Oh, Laganviking: Apparently SOME parts of Europe that I'm visiting not only have internet, but also electrickery too!...

But some places I am visiting may well have neither...  :o

When are you off? Midnight?

What is your first crossing?
Title: Re: On holiday
Post by: Stuart2007 on February 01, 2010, 00:11:58
No, I'm not going to be on a ship (properly) for a few weeks yet- just away from the forum. I am involving myself in a spot of business in Poland and do not intend to wreck my holiday work by taking my computer along...

So my first ship will be on the Dover Straits with either LD Lines, Norfolk or SeaChance. Possibly I might try them all.. Shame there are no other operators in Dover to add to that... Unless Speedferries comes back. :)

That's putting it mildly.. ;)
It would be quite possible with two accounts..
(I wonder if, out of curiousity, a mod is checking the IP adresses)

Stu's "holiday" sounds a bit strange.. It would be some coincidence if WM was to return.. ;)

Righty ho.

70 minutes until I am leaving again...

See you all next week... If you're UNlucky.

Title: Re: On holiday
Post by: Stuart2007 on February 07, 2010, 00:00:21
I'm going to turn up at Dover and see...

TBH and in all seriousness, I really am not impressed with P&O lately (nothing to do with their incompetence with the Western Channel either!)

Their Dover staff are borderline surly and rude (some good, some ahem not good). Seachance always friendly (and usually tall, blonde and smiley)

Norfolk line staff? Just don't get me started. I mean it. Not at all. Anyone saying their staff are good are going to find the 'report to moderator' feature used on the basis that this is an abomination of truth to suggest that there Dover staff aren't the most rude, offensive creatures this side of Watford.
Title: Re: On holiday
Post by: The Ferry Man on February 07, 2010, 00:01:55
I generally don't deal with the staff...

The Norfolk Line vessels though are good - I do recommend them

I once had to tell a NL employee- very calmly- that she was an officious, obnoxious, Marmite devoid, nasty, incompetent, MP-like tosser...

You can't beat seachance for their shore staff.... that said, PO staff in calais are the best...

Oh I never thought of that!

The company is having a bit of a re-structure at the moment, and lots of things depend on solicitors, consultants and all that load of balloons.

And the damned annoying bit is I am too reliant on other people and their timetables at the moment... I could have this stuff completed in 2 months, but it is going to take until September to complete!

Don't like red cars.
Title: Re: On holiday
Post by: McGherkin on February 07, 2010, 19:07:07
Get it in white!

In fact, ferrari.com has a nifty flash where you can spec up a 458...

Every 458 i make has black interior with red stitching and highlights though...

It does look good in white, or how about silver?

Would sir care for a red steering wheel? Or perhaps he would like painted stereo grilles?
Title: Re: On holiday

The DB7 was expensive enough. I'm not richard branson, you know... Nor an MP whos just made an expenses claim!

If I were to buy another fast car, it would be another Aston.

Title: Re: On holiday

Yes... So it is either that or a Reliant...

Actually- if I am being honest, and money were no object (every time I take a divi, something comes up and I reinvest it instead (live to work)... >:()

I would buy a modern Bristol...  ;D

They aren't as well known, so they don't impress neighbours so much... but MUCH more fun!!!

No problems with speeding in it. Too fast to work a gatso and I doubt the Policstapo have anything fast enough to catch it... not even the helicopters

Well they HAVE limited it to 'only' 225mph....

The DB7 was fast enough for fun, and that has NOTHING on this car!!!
Title: Re: On holiday
Post by: McGherkin on February 07, 2010, 19:32:13
I think the setup on the Fighter T would stop it from handling well though. That's where the Aston comes in...
Title: Re: On holiday
Post by: Stuart2007 on February 07, 2010, 19:44:19
EH? :o a 48/52 balance between the axles. Something like 42/58 with an Aston... No.... designed for 2 different purposes there.

The Aston is designed for a bloke with more money than sense. The Bristol is designed for someone with no sense at all.
