This is a model of a merchant ship from the 1914-1918 era. While it is not based on any particular ship, it has the characteristics of many of the tramp steamers that sailed the dangerous seas during World War 1. The name is taken from my Dad's hometown in Nova Scotia. The funnel markings and company flags were based on ones found in the 1912 Lloyds book of House Flags and Funnels, which can be found at:
http://www.mysticseaport.org

This model is a full hull version of the ship. Models of crew members are not included in this version.

This file was made for use in 3dStudio Max version 2.5.
The texture image file is included in the zip file.
Contact information is available in a readme file in case there are difficulties in opening a file.

Read the license for using TurboSquid models. You cannot just buy this one and share it with your friends or put it into a game. The license for TurboSquid is restricted to only personal use, which mean that you can only use the model for yourself.

I have burnt myself on this TurboSquid license c**p, and I don't buy models which I cannot share with others.
Stay away from it, that's my best advice! ::)

Hi Ship Shim!  :)

Nice models you have found there! However, I do not think that the cargo ship model is realistic. Is it based on a real ship? I have not yet seen a large container ship having the accommodation mounted that much ahead.

The most container ships have the engine right below the accomodation as you obviously cannot have a cargo hold there. With the engine mounted that much ahead, you with need to have a very long propeller shaft, which will take up cargo space in the holds abaft. On top of that you will have a power loss in all the bearings supporting the long shaft.

I can see that the funnels (two funnels? ...taking up the double amount of cargo space as needed!) are seperated from the accomodation indication that the engine is mounted abaft the accomodation taking up a whole cargo hold... The owner of this ship certainly do not care about efficiancy...  ;)

That said, there might be a reason for this unusual construction - I just do not know it.  ;)

Sounds pretty idiotic to me...

What I was realy saying was a ship like this would be nice in the game. I like the way it is made. ;) Also the bottom link is another type of ship Id like. ;) Also remember that general cargo ship In SS06. It was from turbosquid. ;) http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/331142 <------ General cargo ship from SS06. ;D So the developers have used turbosquid before.

Here is a Quote from pjotr on the old SS06 fourm.

We don't have a real objection against using 3D models from TurboSquid as the basis for the new player ship models in the game.
We would always remodel it 100% in an optimized way, so the licensing is not really a big deal. And for any model we make, if you add all the hours and convert them into money, we spend much more on a new player ship than the cost of the TurboSquid model.
A lot of models there are indeed fantasy models, not really realistic.
So I want to envourage people to show us 3D models from other sources, which you as professional sailors consider to be realistic and of added value to the game. Even combinations of models, like the lifeboats from one, the hull from another, and the living quarters from another is fine.

Hi groennegard,

it seems to be a typical american design, like some of their naval fleet reserve vessels. They never mind about cargo space, well - that's why nobody orders a newbuilding there  ;D... Ohhh, and it looks like a pod driven vessel, so there is no need for long shafts at all. Some of those original vessels (Matson) are under contruction to convert them into RoRo units.

Cheers

Hi Bottman!  :)

Thanks for the information! If it's american built it all makes sense...  ;) :D

Are you SURE the cargo ship was from turbosquid- i think you misunderstood pjotrs comments.

I think he is referring to people using the turbosquid model in the same way that people use a picture of X ship- to get a general shape- not to use it outright.

They asked the man who made the ship Tony Landmarks if they could the ship and they gave him some of the Add-on profit. ;) If I am correct.

Well that explains the whole thing ;D

Anyway I did buy a model there for some times ago, and suddenly I did get a e-mail from the developer of the ship model asking me to remove it from the site, because I gave the ship model out in a modified game version for Virtual Sailor as freeware. He didn't like that...so I had to remove the file with the ship model... :-X
