Tell me what you think.
It is more a self taught collection of 'bits' to test different techniques, rather than a serious attempt to make a 3d model.
This is version 6, and I think version 7 might just get completed...

Ooh, that looks good! Can blender be used in SS?

Hiya Stu,
Very nice indeed!
That shows a lot of promis for the coming stages, I'll be keen to follow your progress on this one! :2thumbs:
Fred.

Thanks TFM
I'm afraid it is still below the quality you and others manage, but give it time.
No, Blender can not go into it any more than GSU can... And vstep are still too busy to look at anything other than TOP models (which this isn't)... however, as you know I can be very persuasive... ;) :-X

All programes can be used just they moders folow the guidelines.
Also I would love to have PoB in SS great work :2thumbs:
Stue If you want any help just ask me, I have made Mariella ;)

Hi V.94.
You are proving to be very useful :)
I think vstep said before that they can put in ships on request... at a price... ;)
I'd like to see pics of Mariella! What did you make it with?
-
Ok I will send you the pics in PM she is made in SU an old projekt.
-
Nice model, Stu! Good choice given *ahem* recent events...
-
Also one thing the bow on her is werry hard to do.

No comment..... All I can say is it isn't a delftship job. I will do it by hand. Got the keel and bolbous part done...

Don't even go there :( But thanks...

Any program can be used to make something for SS, it's a matter of exporting and file extensions. And yes, Blender can export the necessary filetypes. It can export almost 20 different types!!
Very nice work Stu, all you need is an awesome background. Hate that default dark color, makes it hard to see things.

There's a bit more to it than that, blender can't do all the tasks needed on it's own. Nor can any of the free prorams. They're not free for no reason.. there's no magical free program that makes all the decent professional tools obsolete. You need the right software package, a simple convertor can in many cases spit out a proper file extention, but that doesn't make it usable just like that.
In theorie the model itself can be used, yes.. but that's just one in many things that need doing. And as it is now, there is no feasible way to put anything in the game, since SS08 development has stopped and the developers have a big part in making the vessels ready to sail. That part takes a lot of time and effort and can only be done inhouse. And they are now working on SSEx.

Oh Fred, that's defeatist talk.
I am going to make a guess (and we all know how my guesses have a habbit of coming out correct) that vstep WILL open the market to *selected* third parties to produce commercial add ons of *proper* quality (and I'm not suggesting any of my rubbish is, before you think it).
My opinion has always been that it isn't a technology issue that stops vstep allowing add ons it is the fear that SS will become a playground for the sort of rubbish found in the other 'sim'. Just an opinion, it is not based on any 'inside knowledge' or past activities as a goderator [spit ;)]
The shipyard was not really a sound business model, really. I know I'm getting off the subject here, but I think vstep are missing out on impressive commercial opportunities. That said, they aren't fools and I'm sure they will soon be looking for development partners...
In a nutshell- would MSFS have been so successful if it were not for third party add ons? I think not.

Don't assume too much, look at VS! xD

To be honest..
MSFS has a much better simulation as it's foundation.
And the bulk of the addons for FS are of a much higher quality, because the model requirements are such that beginners often just cannot meet the requirements at all.
VS let's you put anything in the game relatively easy, if you can make a brick in sketchup, and can read a tutorial and copy/paste some files, you have yourself a nice brick addon.
So.. it's a bit.. apples and pears.

Yes, which is WHY vstep is right to restrict it...
But perhaps they need to look more carefully at forming partnerships or lets face it, at this pace of development it will be 3 generations later before large scale content is included.
