This is really great news, three ferries for sail for only £400,000 each!
Great fun in the Solent with these, perhaps Terry could be Commodore?

Well, Capt. Traddles can probably work out how to steer one, can't you Angus ;)
One or two of the kids can have a go as they are experts at everything.
If Mr Grooeenegard (sp, sorry) is still about, he can command the third one.
Which just leaves the rest of us to sit back with beer and sandwiches and watch.

Hmmm...
Writes new letter to Santa...
Dear Santa
I have been realllllly good this Christmas.
All I would like is one Ferry, currently languisihing at Marchwood
Your Pal,
The Ferry Man

£400,000 isn't that high, really.
I'm sure Doc Terry will buy them

Lets hope so, though depending on what happens in Court, Wightlink may want them back
I am sure we can sail them - the should be similar controls to Red Eagle
-
That Court action won't go anywhere. Wightlink will win- that's for sure.
-
ive just asked my dad, he say's we can't have one
-
Maybe they'll do a buy 2 get 1 free- just like tesco

It might take a lot of paper...
-
They've got a cheek - when I checked a few months ago the asking price was £384,000.
Doubt Wightlink would want the 'C' ferries back as it would cost too much to being them back into class again. Not to mention SOLAS regs etc
-
Since they're only estuary tubs- are the requirements THAT strict?

That's what I've been told by those who work in the ferry industry. The MCA and SOLAS regs are getting more and more stricter every few years.
Some new regs, for example does not allow newbuildings to have passenger saloons or crew living quarters below the waterline, and the freeboard to car deck level must be higher than before (which is why the new 'R' class Wightlink ferries look so tall compared to the old 'C' class).

A joint Shipsim Forum fundraiser?
-
Let's not be greedy...
We'll only get the one to start with, fill it up with marmite and go sailing! We'll make propaganda visits to all the SS ports, and break America! We'll all be famous!!!
-
I suppose the main reason for ship sim instead of a real ex wightlink is that these barges wouldn't make Dover-Calais (in the same environment)

They could do...
-
i would buy it if i had the money but i dont, i would refit it and start my own ferry company with it or use it as a personal ferry for me and my family to sail on and i would be the skipper :2thumbs:
-
I would have one, but I think the Fee's would be too expensive at Fleetwood Docks!!
-
One could set sail from Dover towing the other...when the one towing runs out of fuel the other takes over towing...then when that runs out of fuel the other sets off from Calais to tow the other 2 in from mid channel...
I don't think it's a fuel problem that would stop you doing such a crossing...

I will make a wild guess that a condition of sale (or sail!) would be that you don't use it in competition with Wightlink
-
True, especially as Dover-Calais in the same environment can sometimes be like...

That's an absolute cracker of a video.
Around 18 years ago I was on her with a school trip and the weather conditions were similar, although not bad enough for the vessel to hove around in the Downs, like in that youtube video. It was the best crossing I've ever been on. :2thumbs:

At about 5.30 it looks like it isn't making any headway at all

Anyone shed any light on this???

It couldn't have been TOO far from visiting the tita.... :sleepy: :sleepy:

At least this topic has promoted some new discussion!
Anyone got a view as to whether they could do Dover-Calais booze cruises, don't need a dock as you can put them on the beach and put the ramp down?

Can't see why not...

1. I'm sure legally they wouldn't be permitted.
2. I think P&O/SeaChance might torpedo them
3. Would they make it that far?
4. I doubt the French, co-operative people as they are, would permit landing on the beach.
5. This space for rent
6. Err...
7. Is it snowing there?
8. It would take too long
9. It hasn't got all the conveniences of a sea going ferry
10.I think that's already enough pointers but I wanted to get to 10- nice even number

that looked a lot of fun, i did something a lot worse tho but on the Pride of Bilbao. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4qr6PEgqww
