Title: Ideal PC Spec
Post by: NickGB on December 12, 2009, 12:46:57
OK, I'm sure this topic has already been posted but, If it has, I can't find it.

I've read the advice on how to get the best out of your PC and what the minimum PC spec is, but what's the ideal PC spec?  To put it another way, what's the minimum spec I'd need to run ship sim with the sound and graphics at the highest settings?

I ask this because I've just purchased a new PC with 2.4ghz quad core processor, 4gb DRAM, SATA hard drive with 7200rpm spindle speed and NVIDIA Geforce G100 graphics card.  Despite this, it'll still only run ship sim 2008 on the mid graphics setting and some missions still look very jerky.

Any advice would be very welcome.

Minimum to run ship sim:
Processor: 2.4 Pentium 4
1GB ram XP 2 Vista
Not sure about that card...

My Specs are
2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB ram
1GB graphics card  ;)

Good Luck
Matt

Quoting from the posting rules for Technical support:
“This is not the place to ask questions about the best PC you can buy nor which is the best graphics card and so on. Please use “Small Talk” for those questions.”

If you post the DxDiag for your new computer here, someone may be able to tell you why it gives inadequate performance in SS.

TJK many thanks for your helpful reply.

Capt. Matt thank you for so eloquently answering the question of why I so rarely ever bother to post on this forum. Largely because of twits like you who make other users feel unwelcome. Get a life.

If Stuart had bothered to check his prior posts, he would know that this is hardly Nick’s introduction to the forum. He was similarly petulant back in January of this year.
Stuart seems determined to make himself as obnoxious as possible by defecating in support topics where he seldom, if ever, has anything pertinent to say.

Do you know what? For once you are actually right.   :o My comment was indeed spurious and, whilst not offensive, did nothing to contribute to enhancing your discussion.

In fairness to me, how on earth could I manage to put anything useful when you are single handedly responsible for every useful post on the forum?

Is this going to go on between us as thinly veiled attacks forever? If we have to argue can we not do it in private?I bet you quoted this just to see what it said, didn't you. I wouldn't have bothered.

No. You should know better, Mr WM. I have a great respect for Marty and his knowledge. You and I already know how humour doesn't translate too well. Mr Smith is of an age group that favours more doffing of the cap to people of his age. He- mistakenly- takes things the wrong way by quite a few people.

Please do not antagonise the situation; I would rather draw a line under this than continue it on.

Apologies for the hijacking

No. There will be no entertainment. MVSmith is too valuable to this topic to let any war build up between us...

So, I am asking you to please let it drop... We can always go start an arguement discussion elsewhere.

Hi Capt. Matt,
You did absolutely nothing wrong, He did. I suggest you forget it, some folks are exceptionally rude and have no manners.

Hi Capt. Matt.

If Angus hadn't said that already, I'd have said it again. ...eerrrr wait! No, err....

You did nothing wrong at all.

I suspect NickGB was either meaning someone else or he had completey misunderstood what you said.

But don't worry. Back in his last session here he was similarly acid about everything that was done to help him and his problems. He even sneered at me because he didn't understand my installation flowchart that so many other people seem to use quite sucessfully.

Oh well. Better things to do and all that. This week's Xmas Special Triple Super Pack is going to cheer everyone up, I think.  ;D  :2thumbs: Now, time to get back to that....

With everything that will be in the Christmas Triple Wonderful Extra Super Pack, you'll be too busy to notice Christmas and the New Year go past.

It contains over 38 hours of brand new missions, and that is the least of its contents!
