I tried playing Ship Simulator 2008 on my Vista Home Basic, the junky computer, and it won't open. All I get is a cursor that shows it is busy then no longer. I tried restarting the computer and it still won't open. I even tried uninstalling it and Reinstalling it and it WON'T work at all. I need to know what the problem is.

Hi Matt,
Can you post you Dxdiag here?
Your dxdiag can be obtained by following these instructions:
Click Start > Run. type in dxdiag and press Enter. You may see a popup asking about WHQL drivers, click Yes/Ok to proceed.
In the window that appears, click the button that says Save All Information, when the Save Dialog box appears, save the file to your desktop. To upload the file here, click Additional Options underneath the reply area and choose Browse near Attach. Browse to your desktop, click the file and click Open
This will help us understand more about your PC it contains no personal information it only shows us your Processer, Graphics Card, Direct X Versions and your Driver updates.
From there me or the Moderators can furtherly Assist you
Thanks,
MMMMMM

Windows must be stuck, try hitting it with a hammer a few times and getting a crow bar.
Austin Gratzer is not liable for computer damage if you are not intelligent enough to know that was a joke.
-
Well your Processer Speed is 1.9GHz SS requires 2.4GHz
And Your running Vista with only 800 mb of ram :o Vista Requires 2 Gb.
Ok you can try starting SS in Admin Mode Right Click>Run As Administartor
or
Run in compadibility mode, Right click>Properties>Compadibility>Check Run In Campadibility Box> Windows XP Service Pack 2

My SS08 is dropped to 1.3 and won't play. So the Vista Home Basic is no longer capable f playing my game, so I will stick to Windows Vista Home Premium to play SS08 which is about a quarter of a mile from my home where I can ride my bike back and forth without tiring. but the Home Premium is my backup so I can't keep going to the backup or i will tire itself out ;D

on that computer you're done, i'm amazed the computer can even run at all with only 800 something MB RAM plus 100 something being taken out for the graphics card, 1.9ghz processor. That computer is probally stuggleing with itself. There isn't a thing you can do unless you do a major computer overhaul.

You misunderstood me. The Vita Home Premium wasn't replaced with a better PC yet. The Vista Home Premium is a quarter mile from the junky Home Basic

Yha that computer was not ment to play SS and by the way if that computer is a labtop theres nothing you can do to fix its its all in the motherboard so you will need a New PC if thats the case

It ain't a Laptop. and if the thing crashes, I will throw it into the Freaking Atlantic!!!
-
when i said "on that computer you're done" i was referring to the home basic one. Its almost seems as if its an old computer upgraded to vista, as vista requires atleast a gig to run. I'm amazed it runs the way it does, stick to your home premium computer. And if you're gonna throw it in the atlantic, get ready because i wouldn't doubt it if that thing crashes before long, needs a major ram upgrade and a processor upgrade

Okay. And if I get a Windows 7 for Christmas, I will tear up the Junky Vista and use it as a little electronic aircraft carrier like the CVN 65.
Electrocution and death not fault of Olympus Line ;)
-
Well if you through it into the the antartic you willl, Wait....... were do you live in a penguin colony?

i advise differently, theres alot of issues with 7 and ship sim. Its not a supported operating system therefore you can't expect much help when it doesn't work which seems to be happening alot lately

Check the map of the country I live in and the picture below for the clue:

Miami? New York? if new york you and Captain.Matt live very close

More of a hint. Check wikipedia for AEGON Center.
-
oh my friend Baylee Sauter is from Kentucky
-
What city do you think it is Devin?
-
Louisville
-
Largest city of Ky is Louisville right. I got a new idea on destroying the junky vista, Drop it from the tp of the AEGON center and let it smash into a planned car with explosives and it will make a fireball of destroying the EVIL vista
-
woops i guess to much chatter o well

LAPTOP!!!!!! P!!!!!!! Not B Sorry one of my biggest pet peeves, Oh and Matt as everyone else said a million times, Hard to believe it even runs on that thing :P It struggled a tad on my old dell witha 2.8GHz processor and 2 gb of ram running XP and a 128mb graphics card so I feel your pain :P
My advice...Get a new PC
-
That's why I am wanting either a Windows Vista (Home Business or Ultimate), or a Windows 7 (Premium, Professional, or Ultimate) for Christmas.
-
if you end up with 7 you may very well have ship sim issues, but 7 is the newest thing so whatever you get you get, just dont complain when it doesn't work right with the game.

Hi Master Captain,
As I said in another topic, SS08 works well with Windows 7.
I don't know if you downloaded the beta version of Windows 7, (that was available for free about six/eight months ago), but I did. I found it stable, less memory hungry and an improvment over Vista.
Microsoft made the beta version of Windows 7 available to the public and about 3,000,000 users have tried it out and given feedback on it, (by messages and by allowing Microsoft to monitor their computer use on a day to day basis), before they released the finished product.
Regards, Dave

Sounds like I know what Windows I am going with;
Windows 7. Windows 7 has more space very high over Ship Sim's requirements and would play much better. When I get it, I will test SS08 out to see if it will play th high poly ships like a VERY low poly jetski.

Have You check the updates on http://www.shipsim.com/downloads/patches.php (http://www.shipsim.com/downloads/patches.php)

or right click/left click (depends if you right handed or left handed but what comes up with properties will work) now click properties and click Compatibility and then click the box saying "Run this program in compatibility mode for"
and drop the box and click on Windows XP.
If this does not work as has happened before im sorry
but it dose say
Operating system: Windows 2000, XP or Vista
Processor: Pentium 4 2.4GHz or AMD equivalent
Memory: 1GB (Windows 2000/XP) or 2GB (Vista)
Graphics card: GeForce 5900 or ATI 9600 Pro / X600 (128MB)
Audio devices: Sound card
Input controller: Mouse with scroll wheel
Optional controllers: Joystick, Joypad or Steering wheel

I got SS08 running agian with the XMas pack, and I got a new problem.
I can only sail ships in open seas and sometimes Phi Phi, not the ports. What is causing this?!
