I've just noticed this in SS08
When the camera is high above the waves the water looks like this,

But when the camera is low in the waves it looks like this

anyone know why this is happening? :captain:

What is happening?
Waves look different when viewed from above than when viewed at water level.
-
i dont see anything wrong
-
The water is much more reflective

The water is much more reflective
Then you have a good graphics card
-
Saphire ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256mb
-
Well its not like mine NVida 1G
But its better than SS Requres so its fine MVsmiths sees nothing wrong neither do i so i think your fine
-
I don't see nothing wrong with water...
What is bettter and faster Graphic card....the the efects are better...
Good bye!
-
See i told you another point that there is nothing wrong
-
NVidia is what I use, the one over SS08's required one. and I see the sea really realistic, but SSE looks Facinating in the Trailer. Nothing wrong with SS08 water
-
I have: Nvidia 8600 GTS X 512mb...
It works perfectly... the water is nice just the rain... when i put it on the most power rain it looks like wird...
it's raining and youc an see diference of the sea and rain...
i'l post the picture now...

Good bye!

The rain looks like that from the inside due to a bug I believe.
If I remember correctly VSTEP couldn't fix it for this version of the game as they would need to change the entire weather model.
Correct me if I'm wrong though! :)
-
I' don't know ;D ;D
But i belive they will fix it soon...
Good bye!
-
I think that if VSTEP made the rain hit the ground realistically, most PCs couldn't handle the extra work. As it is, some lower-spec PCs crash or go extremely slowly if there is any rain at all.
After all, this is a ship simulation, and any improvement in the rain means that less is available for the ships. I know which I'd prefer... ;)
-
Yes sure...
OK thanks all...
Good bye!
-
I would like to see rain fall below the horizon, and get the ships wet.. ;)
-
The rain is a two-dimensional screen, not a 3-D effect. For internal (bridge) views it is near the bottom of the layers, just above the sky. That is why it stops at the horizon.
For external views, the rain screen is the top layer so you will see it falling between you and the ships; and past the horizon.
It is not real water, so it can’t get anything wet. Adding splashes on decks (where there is not really any rain) would, as Terry said, be too expensive, and kill the frame rate.
Live with it.
-
;D ;D
It would e better to be a real rain but it's not very important so... it dosen't metter...
Good bye!
-
In Virtual Skipper 5: when it's raining you can even see circles on the water, for example.
But before someone replies to this, of course the above is not important in SS! ;D
-
Maybe we should get a rain check on that! ;D
-
Lol, a rain check..I get it.. ;D
-
Maybe we should get a rain check on that! ;D
Groan.....!
-
for the first time I set the waves below 1 meter in the ocean and I got the water.

That's the same way I got it from the Sahara desert.
