Title: S'hampton-Cowes Crossing times

Morning all,

I'm new to ship sim and after familiarising myself with the redjet thought i would do a crossing from Southampton (area of Town Quay) to Cowes in free roam which in 'real terms' should take approx 25mins. I've made the trip twice and both times seem to take around 35/40mins? This was done at high speed and as straight line as possible. I would've thought with the Lat/Long co-ordinates in the sim that the distance/time would be the same as real time.

Is there something i'm missing??

I've done a search and found nothing so apologies if it is out there somewhere.

Hiya John, and welcome to the game & forum! :)

I'm not that jazzed up with the timings however try taking a look on the information bar to the right where it displays time information, there may be something on there that has a time closer to real life. :)

Hi johnellis75,

The actual speed of your ship (the true distance that you cover in a given clock time) is less than the speed indicated on the HUD, and it depends upon the frame rate that your computer can deliver.
For a marginal computer, the true speed can be less than half the indicated speed. That is why “fastest times” are meaningless.

Thanks for the comments chaps,

Something deep inside was saying it was to do with performance and my pc is 'borderline' but as movements/graphics seemed smooth i thought i'd double check with more experienced mariners.

Alot of initial obstacles i had have been solved by reading the forum so thanks to all.
