Title: Firestar....
Post by: firestar12 on September 17, 2009, 01:13:43
Firestar got two more computers today. ;D
One is a desktop and one is a laptop. Which equals to a total of 5 Computers in my house, all of them working properly. The two ones I got today both run Windows 98 AFAIK (Due to the fact that I have not been able to find a charger for the laptop, but it says built for windows 98 so it's safe to assume I guess). I'm also proud to say that out of the 5 PCs in my house, (It will be seven computers by the time Christmas comes around), 4 of them are mine. Does anyone have any advice to me for using Win98? It takes some getting used to that's for sure.

That's a good point, and well Shane..  if I were you, I would indeed sell all the ones that are worse than the best one, and put that money into upgrading that best one.

Or keep the best desktop and the best laptop, so you have a fixed machine and a mobile machine to work on, for example. Apart from maybe planning to set up a network, you really only need 2 of them that way, I reckon.

Tips for Win98..  well.. I have one..  try to forget about a lot of better features that came with the newer versions of Windows, that might help..  :P

Win98 is pretty obsolete indeed. You pretty much need at least XP nowadays. It's like getting rid of your big screen color TV in favour of an old, small black and white TV.  ;D

If they can handle it, I would put XP on them if I were you. If they cannot handle XP, then I reckon they cannot really offer you some good use anyway. And if you have a better pc/laptop that does have xp, that kinda makes the Win98 machines useless. I got an attic full of thatkinda stuff, but I'm too lazy to sell them, so it all ended up, up there.  ;D

I have a PS3 in every room of my house, two computers, and one laptop. As well as a Nintendo Wii downstairs in the lounge where we have plasma screen TV, HD Ready. As well as having a Nintendo DS, XBox, PS2, etc.

Why would you want computers running 98, if i wanna play some retro gaming like settlers which only works on 98 then i just change the settings on my xp computer to run a certain game or program in windows 98 or any other year.

Thanks for the replys everyone, just to make it clear, I didn't know that they had 98 on them...it wasn't up to me. And Fred, yes, they both can handle XP. I will consider selling them for parts though. I'm not a big fan of 98 either though, it's nowhere near good enough. At least it works though I suppose, and free computers is kinda fun anyway. I might turn them into a test (linux) server or something, I don't know. Though one thing is for sure, I will sell one of them at least. :)
