Title: RIP Henry Surtees

On July 19th 2009, The world touring car championship came to brands hatch. along with the world touring car championship and other various support series, was the FIA Formula 2 championship.

I attended this meeting today. There was some great racing.

However on lap 10 of a 19 lap Formula 2 race, a car slid off in the back section of the brands hatch course, hitting a tyre barrier. a wheel of the car came flying off, bounced onto the track and up into the air. approaching at over 100mph, Henry surtees driving his number 7 yellow and blue surtees team car, came by, and the wheel hit him in the head. he was knocked unconscious. he hit the wall at the next corner and came to a stop. he was put in an ambulance and air lifted to hospital, and put into intensive care. hours later, he was pronounced dead.

RIP Henry Surtees. a death of a true rising star, overshadowing a weekend otherwise full of brilliant action packed racing.

a sense of guilt pangs my tone. :-\

so sad, he was just one year older than me, may he rest in peace.
