Today is Canada's 142th birthday ;D. While I plan to celebrate our's country's birthday, the weather here in Ontario isn't looking good with the forecast calling for rain and thunderstorms. Can't we get a break from such weather? >:(
The good news is that we're getting a break from this weather here in Gravenurst in the evening, which means the fireworks could go on.
Happy 142th birthday Canada :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Didn't know Canada had a "Birthday". Ireland dosen't, since it dates back much longer than any other country in Europe. (Though that depends who you ask, the "Republic Of Ireland" Was "Born" in 1916 after the war for independence against the British Crown).
That's your history lesson for today!
Happy Birthday Canada!

Hi IrishJack,
I don't know if you calander had July 1st marked as "Canada Day". This was the day Canada became a country. The providences of Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia came together to become the domain of Canada in 1867. But Canada was still part of the British Empire for quite some time until we wanted to be an independent country like the United States.
I like to remember Canada Day by the man who made it possible, Sir. John A. McDonald.

Sounds like a similar story to the Irish one then. We still aren't fully independent from the United Kingdom (Northern Ireland troubles etc.) Many people still argue and fight over Northern Ireland.
In fact, I actually born where many troubles occured, just up the road, was "Vinegar hill". A place where a famous battle took place, against Britain - to Gain Irish freedom. There was a song wrote about it, called "Boolavogue". This is it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATucV4Ugqsw
It seems that we have a lot in common!
Jack.
