Look at what picture I was sent from my mom. It says it all:

A Lightning bolt close up hitting the Ohio River!!! You can see it gleam on the National Bank tower in back. Note: Picture taken in nearby New Albany, Indiana.
-
That is very impressive!
-
Was a bit lucky I decided not to take a swim that day me thinks...
-
nice, I once was only a few meters away from one, it hitted the plains wing and I was at the wing window. But awesome shot you got there ;)
-
Pfft....I don't like lightning
You wouldn't want to be standing too close to that!
Amazing shot, how did you get it?!
Jack :)
-
if most of the fish in that area got eletricuted and died, fisherman would be happy! :2thumbs: ;D
-
wow!!!!!!!!!!! 8)
-
Say, thought I'd let you know, we had a big thunderstorm last night, was pouring down with rain, massive BOOOMS OF THUNDER!
Jack.

Fishermen cannot fish in the Ohio River, it is Illegal to fish in the River, that is why we got parks(with lakes or ponds)that is legal to fish in.
Cool! I wish I was on boat in that river at that time.
The only boat near that lightning bolt was the SS Belle of Louisville, which was built in 1914, so it is 105 years old. Thats Old!
-
We have a boat which was built in 1937. She's a classic wooden boat, made out of mahogony :)
-
cool

Hmmm Off topic again, BUT I think the oldest ships we have in New York Harbor (that im aware of) are 3 lightships, and they are old  We had a bad storm in the afternoon yesterday I imagine it hit kentucky matt first ;)
-
Wow, I've always wanted to do that with my camera.
-
Amazing what camera and technology can do these days, isn't it?
-
They can capture stuff too fast than the naked eye. I saw a YouTube vid about lightning hitting the anteannea of the World Trade Center. and another one of a Boeing Aircraft struck by lightning in the air.
-
Holy Moly!!!
He like the name of the Topic.
-
Its alright. This topic if for close up Pictures or videos of Lighning hitting something in view. Like a lightning bolt hitting the Ohio River, a crane, the WTC, a Boeing 747 and a car.
-
Lightning hitting aircraft is always fun. The high Voltage just passes through the plane with no problem.

It would probably be more fun if it went through your body though - you'd get an electrifying tingling feeling ;D

Even if it hits you behind ;D
Might make your hair stand up though - perhaps you'd better pack some hair gel.
Mind you, you'd get it confiscated at the airport ::)
-
I managed to get a picture of lightning once, but it took a lot of hits and isn't that spectacular.
-
Does anyone know how to get a picture of lighting? I've aways wanted to with my digital camera.
-
It is kind of mainly luck. You need to take a continuous stream of photos during a storm. It is also a good idea to take longer exposures as well to maximise your chance...

And sometimes photoshop works wonders to bring out the details as well...

Thats a good idea, I'll have to try that next time we have a Thunderstorm (Which dosen't happen often ).
Jack.

Well then, I'll try my best the next time Gravenhurst get's a thunderstorm.
