Hello,
I recently got myself a new(er) graphic card and wanted to try some games that didn't work very well before, so I downloaded the Ship Simulator Demo, but when I check the "Environmental Reflection" and "Ship Reflection", the whole sea turns into one big grid.
Anybody know what to do or had the same problem?
I'm using a Ati Radeon 9800 Pro 256 mb video card....
Thanks in advance.

Hey Terry,
How do I register? With a key?
Like I said, i'm just trying the demo before buying it so I don't really have a key...
-
Ah, I see. Sorry, it didn't click about the demo version.
Can you post your dxdiag, please?
Here is how to do that:
Click Start button. Select "Run". Type "dxdiag" and press "Enter".
(If using Vista you may have to press the Windows Key + R to get the "Run" prompt, depending on how your system is set up)
You might be asked about WHQL drivers, click "Ok".
In the next window click the button that says "Save All Information", when the Save Dialog box appears, save the file to your desktop.
To upload the file here, select "Reply" to this message. Select "Additional Options" (underneath the text area) and choose "Browse". Browse to your desktop, click the file and click "Open". When finished post the message

Here's my dxdiag. thanks for helping me.

Your DXdiag is saying that it was cancelled before it completed all the tests. Could you run it again, please? It may look like it has finished, but leave it for five minutes or so before you do anything.
Basically, your hardware all looks adequate, though. So it may just be a driver or CODEC issue. (I suspect CODECs, but not sure until it runs all the tests).

Hmmm ok, here is another DXdiag, hope this one is the right one.
So maybe the codecs huh, I know how to download new drivers but how can I do something about the codecs?

Thanks, I've tried that but with no succes. It's a bit strange though, cause with the graphics card I've got all should work fine right?

I've just seen in your DXdiag that you have almost no space left on your hard drive:
Disk & DVD/CD-ROM Drives
------------------------
Drive: C:
Free Space: 0.5 GB
That will cause this problem. It also means that you are this close --><-- to Windows crashing out.
-
Hehe :D , thanks, ill fix that and try again!
-
It could still be something else, but that is going to be a problem soon, anyway. You must have just managed to get Ship Simulator installed. Another few bytes less and it would have failed.
-
Never really had any problems with that even if the C drive was full. But I keep alot of stuff on the desktop so that fills it up more quickly.
Anyway, gonna empty it up a little tomorrow and hope that it'll make the difference.
-
wooooooo too close :P
you must be a magician to get that close
ever heard of a external hard drive try it out for storing things rather than the one in your PC
good luck

TIP:
Try to empty the System Volume Information folder. That will almost free up half of your original space on your C drive.
Good luck

(Depends on which version of Windows you have. Not always available)
Open "My computer", right click on the drive that has your operating system (C:) and select "Properties".
Click "Disk Clean up" on the "General" Tab.
Click "More Options", then click "Clean up" for System Restore.
But note that by doing this, you will have no system restores available!

Yeah I got a 500 and a 160 gig extern drives but they are also almost full so I might wanna go buy a new one.
I took 8 gig from the C to my extern hard drive, but unfortunately it didn't do the trick.
So I guess the game doesn't work fully on my system, too bad. Do I miss much? Does the sea look much better?

Maybe your graphics card is just not be good enough to handle the best graphics possible with shipsim 2008. Try to lower other graphic settings.
-
That card should be OK (9600 is the minimum).
ATI cards do seem to give a lot more of these sort of problems than the Nvidia range. It might be worth trying to install an older video driver. We've had a few people find them to work better.

You may have to hunt around a bit.

Tried a couple of oldies even the one I got with the cd, but still no luck.
Guess I have to play without reflections. Thanks everyone for the help.
